We've all seen the threads about DJ's on Sirius and whether or not they are needed. We've heard all the upsides and downsides. Now let's put this issue to rest (well, try to anyway) by voting in this simple poll...

I'd love to, however, I don't see a poll.

(edit: okay, poll fixed)

...

I say Keep DJ's, just make sure they get the song coming up next right, and not have it flubbed due to the prerecorded show playlist they make.

Also, make it more interactive. leaving a voicemail for a DJ and having it heard and played the next day when they come in to record and then having the request played is annoying and really defeats the purpose. Make it live, or at least, more interactive and convienent then it is now.

Less stupid 1 and a half minute chats about nothing, too. Talking about a recent concert or recording of a cd is great. Talking about your trip to work or how you are on 10 other channels and how they rock and you should tune in is not great every day every few hours.

Also, talking up the entire intro of a song isnt need on sattelite. What time constraints do you have? none! Play the entire song without a talking DJ over it.

I voted YES with conditions. I really enjoy the DJ's myself, but I don't want them stepping on the beginning and endings of songs. Keep the talk pertinent and brief.

But I'd also like to see SIRIUS cut back on the number of jingles and station IDs played on many channels. They are too too repetitive and too often.

It sounds like, for the most part, you and I agree, DAB.

I really feel stations like Octane and Alt nation and such go too far or are too self indulgent on themselves when it comes to DJ chatter.

I think we need DJ's to differenciate ourselves from an iPod or something, since I think it definatly adds character. Just....Tone it down.

I voted YES, but for the second option from the top. I like to hear them talk briefly between the songs usually but I don't like when they talk over the songs.

Yes indeed I think you and I do agree 100% on this. Like I said I do enjoy the DJ's. Many of them are very knowledgeable and the information they pass along can be very interesting. I think on a channel like Sirius Disorder the DJ's may talk a bit longer between sets, but they still should not step on the beginning and endings. Usually though they aren't just talking about the weather, but actually imparting some historical music info. This I don't mind at all. But on the decades/hits channels and Octane, Alt Nation, they should keep it short and sweet.

So, toning it down with the chatter, station ids and jingles would make me happy for sure.

I don't think I've ever heard a DJ talk over a song. Maybe the channels I like have better DJs than others...

I like the Dj's as long as they:

1) Don't talk over the music

2) Talk about the music and or the artist

3) Don't feel the need to drop the F-Bomb on a otherwise family friendly channel, just because they can

I have never understood the point of the "station ID" clips on the channels. I know I am listening to Alt Nation because 1. I spend most of my time on Alt Nation, and 2. I can look at the screen and tell I am listening to Alt Nation. Yet they seem to love playing clips telling me that this is Alt Nation about every other song. I would rather listen to more DJ talk than the Station IDs.

Same here. And I'm not even going to go into detail because my DJ thread quota has been filled for the month...fifty is enough. Although, the poll is a very nice touch. And it's nice to see someone start a DJ thread that finally realizes that just because you don't like the annoying habits of some DOES NOT mean you want to eliminate them completely. Some people have this assumption that you either want them or you don't, and that there's no in-between. Saying you want no DJ's and saying you want them to change their habits are two totally different entities.

Can we please NOT turn into another DJ fuck thread debate? All it takes is one person mentioning it, and like a chain reaction the thread veers totally off its intended topic.

Also, let's try and keep the words "iPod", "CD", "personality", "F-bomb" and "jukebox" completely out of this thread.

Sure thing!

I just hope that sirius keeps the DJ's so it doesn't turn into the equivilant of listening to my Zune, I mean, if I wanted no talking I could pop in my Compact disc. DJ's bring some real uniqueness and flair to the channel. One thing I hate though is a DJ coming on to say "fudge this" and "fudge that".
In that case I'm better off listening to my old coin operated music box!

I'm with you DAB. I enjoy the Sirius Disorder 24 DJ musings because they're insightful and interesting. I'm not sure I've ever noticed them talking over the music. However, stuff like the Greg Brady/Barry Williams idiodic prerecorded intro drivel on the 70's station is unnecessary and more irritating than entertaining. I guess what I'm saying is: Yes, keep the DJ's but keep it cool guys.
