Default It's Official: The Stones are Leaving and the Bridge is Returning

Confirming what Long Paul mentioned in another thread, I just heard on the Rolling Stones channel that the Stones are ending on New Years Eve (at midnight Pacific). I guess Mel meant it literally when he mentioned back in the spring that the Stones were here through 2006. Not a second longer.

The Who will be moving to Channel 98 to replace the Stones.

And the best news: The Bridge will be returning to Channel 10.

EXCELLENT... I do miss the Bridge. It's been in my presets for a long time.

Thanks. Good to hear these changes are just days away. The Bridge was one of the first channels I started to enjoy on Sirius, and I've missed it.

Personally, while I like The Who, their discography just wasn't deep enough to programs a 24/7 channel. But then again, that didn't seem to matter. The Stones, well maybe more from them, but not for a whole year or more.

Thanks for the confirmation of the changes.

Well before someone else asks...what about The Globe! Any word on how much longer we'll have the Who?

Question

What did "The Bridge" channel sound like? I never heard it in its first iteration.

If I remember correctly, it was "singers and songwriters, on THE BRIDGE"

I guess I'd call it a lite-rock type channel. All automated with no DJ's.

The Bridge is good - not quite soft-rock but not regular rock, either...somewhere in between (probably why they call it "the bridge"). Bonnie Raitt, Eric Clapton, etc. From Sirius' website:

Cross the bridge to the softer side of rock. Stress-free music from Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Sting and Elton John. Nothing too hard, just great mellow rock that’s perfect at work or on a relaxing drive.
What we play: Jim Croce, James Taylor, Billy Joel, The Eagles, Carole King, Simon & Garfunkel and many more.

Actually, that description makes it sound like a boring channel. It's much better than that.
I always considered myself a Who fan but listening to some of the Who's lesser known works...well, let's just say I'm happy sticking with my Tommy and Who's Next CDs...although I'll probably pick up Quadraphenia one o' these days (had the vinyl album years ago).

The Bridge has always been one of my favs, and my presets, Adult rock from singer/songwriters, spanning over 3 decades. I just got so tired of it being hijacked by The Who, and The Boss over the past year plus.

Well, they said it'd be over around the Super Bowl. They just didn't say which one.

There was one day, back before we discovered fire, for like 2 hours there was The Globe, and it was good, but then the Stones showed up with a bag full of cash, and it has been bad ever since.

technically, the World music channel was called something else - Horizons, I believe. It went away with promises that it would come back better than ever as The Globe. But it never did. So gilpdawg is correct when he says the Globe never aired.

Well it's about goddamned time!

Road Hog - This is one time I'm glad you were wrong about something.

Now if Mel and his posse of overpaid brown-nosers would just rid our lives of the Who channel, remove any single-artist/payola channels from now until the end of existence, and have the person(s) responsible for suggesting such an asinine idea in the first place to join Saddam on the gallows Sunday...that would be just swell. I'd really like to think the good folks at SIRIUS have learned a little something from this whole ordeal, but we all know deep down inside that they'll most likely ignore any past, present or future customer pleas and turn around and do it all over again.
