Unhappy Totally 70s forgets Ford

I am a regular listener to channel 7. They havent played any kind of tribute to President Ford. He was a big part of the 70s and it fits the channel's genre. It would be nice out of respect.

Sirius - use more imagination!

The 70's is an upbeat Music Station. Playing tributes to major figures of the 70's would be a downer. Does not fit this station's format.

Why should a music channel be expected to pay tribute to an ex-president or anyone for that matter? You have CNN, FOX News, CNBC, Bloomberg, C-Span, ABC News & Talk, NPR, and countless other channels for that...not enough for you?

Music channels have done tributes to musicians of the time before, but it really doesn't make much sense for a music channel to do a tribute to a non-musician of the time IMHO. As Chad said, there are many other places for that.

The only time a music station/channel should pay tribute to anyone is if that person was a musical artist and whose music is played on that channel. Ford, while even a president , doesnt fit that definition, and it should not be seen as a insult or neglectful act that he doesnt get some tribute on the 70s channel.

And what music would you play as tribute to Ford? Terry Jacks' "Seasons in the Sun"??

I don't think a "tribute" (meaning a program lasting 15 minutes or longer) is right, but why not some Ford soundbites? Short snips, 10 or 15 seconds long. Blasts from the past, to help set the mood.

i may be one of the few here who were actually alive from 1974-76. and i remember..no one liked ford. please dont be offended but its a fact. carter won by a landslide. and btw ford wasnt elected president or vice president..and it would not fit for the 70s station to pay tribute to him. there was no pro ford pop music from the 70s!

I was alive, and your memory might need a refresher. The election was close 50% Carter, 48% Ford (popular vote). Electoral Vote 297 to 240:

But I agree with others that don't think it's appropriate for Totally 70's to do any kind of tribute. The music channels should remain apolitical. It would be good to have a tribute on one of the other news/commentary channels though.

If Totally 70's used clips of cultural/political figures as part of it's normal branding, I'd think the OP had a point. But it doesn't.

Forgive me since I only lived in the 70s for 18 days (born Dec 13) but could they really do? Just play music from his time in office? They do that already.

"Totally 70s remembers President Ford". Then play "I am a Ford, not a Lincoln" or "My fellow Americans, our long national nightmare is over".

Then back to music immediately. He was a president, a ww2 vet and we are AT WAR.
