Default Is now a good time to buy Sirius?

I've been on the fence now for about 2 months about whether or not to get Sirius installed. I've enjoyed the service through my Dish Network for over a year now, and would like to have it in the cars for long trips.

I follow the stock, and the company news, however, and I'm a little hesitant. I have a history of adopting technology, shelling out the money, only to later find out that the investment was wasted. I don't want to end up in that situation again, given this past year for Sirius. I do know, however, that if I do go with SatRad it will be Sirius, not XM. I guess I'm just wondering what everyone thinks about the direction of the company, before I make my final decision, and convince the wife that we should spend the money.

Thanks in advance.

Hedge your bets. Buy a cheap receiver. With discounts and rebates they can be had for about $40.

Don't buy a cheap one, you miss out on a ton of features. You can afford $100 one.

It's the best bang for the buck of any subscription service out there. The amount of content and entertainment rivals the cable companies hundreds of channels for a fraction of the price. The service is worth every penny but I agree with previous posts, get a decent receiver.....Sportster or Starmate.

you'll be fine getting Sirius. It is a great service, and they won't be going anywhere anytime soon. If worst comes to worst, they will be bought out by another company, but Sirius is not going to shut down; there is too much potential for profit.

We were all asking this same question back in 2002 and 2003, and here we are. I think Sirius has challenges, but it's not going bye-bye like some fly-by-night dotcom.

Sirius isn't going anywhere. I bought and Xact Visor at Walmart for about $29.00 last month. I own both services and I'd give up cable tv, the internet and my cell phone service before I'd give up my satellite radio services. I think satellite radio's best days are ahead and plan on getting A better unit soon. Check out Walmart where you live and see if they have the Xact Visor for $29.00 and if you like it then you can get A more expensive and better unit later.

Thanks for all of the comments.

I have some Best Buy cards from Christmas, so I was considering getting the Stratus, and then we can bounce it between 2 cars if we need to, until we decide on a 2nd subscription. If all goes well, then the wife can have the Stratus, and I'll get something with more bells and whistles for my truck.

And get it hardwired... the sound quality increase and decreased hassles is worth the price.

6,000,000 subscribers paying an average of $10 a month (just a guess) means that they are getting $60 million a month / $720 million a year. This deal pencils, if these guys can't make it work, someone else will take over.

This is a good business play and if they get smart with marketing they will be at 10 million in a few years.

Definitely get it hardwired. You'll enjoy not seeing all of those wires all over the place. I know I do!

Last week was the best time to buy Sirius...but it's like planting a tree. The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago, but as long as that is not possible, then today is second-best!!
