Post Choosing SIRIUS

I am considering choosing Satellite Radio. Went to Best Buy. One sales associate says go with SIRIUS and another says go with XM. Can you please tell me what made you choose and stay with SIRIUS and not migrate to XM.

My Macintosh is not compatible with online audio three day trials offerred by SIRIUS and XM

Thanks in advance !!

I started with XM back in 7/02. Came to Sirius in 6/05 because NASCAR was coming here to Sirius at the beginning of '07.

You can go to both websites and get like a free three day trial of each. Check them both out and see which one you'd like and go with it.

Some like the music on Sirius over XM. Some it's the other way around.

The same goes with the talk channels.

A lot of people have both, like me...

But my XM subscription runs out in four day...

Check them both out and good luck...

Oh yeah, 100% commercial free music. Two major things that XM does not offer.

Why don't you sign up for the Sirius and the XM trials on line, listen to both for a few days, and make the call based on what you like?

Question

Do you have a friend that has one or the other?

You can find a lot of used radios on here or on ebay, cheap. Buy one and activate it. If you don't like it, it didn't cost you too much. If you do, keep the radio until it dies and be happy...

I have 2 Macs and easily get online listening. I use Safari and Firefox browsers, both work fine. Have you cleared your cookies, emptied your temp files and cleared your cache? PM me if you like , perhaps I can help out further.

Oh, sorry. I made an assumption... It does work if it's a Intel-based Mac, of course. One of the reasons I added Parallels to my Mac Book Pro. Perhaps you can find access through a PC at work, or a friends or relatives home. I was all set to sign up with XM, until I compared it to Sirius on-line, and that was before the Stern run-up. I was much more pleased with what I call the formatics on Sirius music. While not perfect, the presentation did seem to flow better than XM's. Some like one, some the other. Folks today have a tendency to tell you to get what they have for many technologies and associated services. Personally, I like comparing and choosing what I like. Sometimes there are common threads to take into consideration, and the rest frequently is personal opinion. Nothing wrong with that. Good luck on making your choice and let us know how it turns out!

Well, after a few trial accounts on XM, there's only TWO features I like with their online listening over Sirius:

(1) You can set your favorite channels with a "preset" feature, and
(2) You can see what song is currently playing

Over all, Sirius still has the best satellite radio service.

I have had both and I prefer the music line up at Sirius better. With XM I found myself always changing the channels looking for a good song, but with Sirius there are a dozen stations that I can listen to for hours.

Do you have Directv or Dish? Directv has XM stations and Dish has Sirius.

Having a Macintosh has nothing to do with it, whether it's Intel-based or not. Thousands of PowerPC Mac owners listen listen online every day. You just don't get the last five songs played on a Mac (or if you use Firefox or Safari or another browser), because that info is managed by an Active X control, which only IE supports. Something else is causing your problems. Why exactly can't you listen online? What kind of error message do you get?

SIRIUS web site says plugins required. When I click on the button to install plugin I get the message that the plugin failed.

The plugin is Flash. Do you have that installed? What browser are you using?

Alternatively, you could go ahead and get a username and ID for the three day trial, and then download the Yahoo widget engine and Sirius widget for mac, and login using that. It does require Windows Media Player for Mac, which is also a free download.

Maybe AZJoe can help more.
