I would guess that it does the satellite and terrestrial signal. It will be worth every penny you pay not to stress over where to get a good signal etc.

I don't have wifi due to dial up only out here in the country and the nearest repeater is over 100 miles away. However, I get a constant "3" bar signal reading on my Stiletto via the home dock. When I want to move around the house I put on wireless headphones. I even have a wireless receiver hooked up with earbuds when I want something smaller than cans. The sound, all around my property, is very good (especially with the Sennhieser wireless headphones).

I guess my question is, why would you want a home repeater when you can move around at will with wireless headphones on and keep the unit docked all the time? If the antenna is pointed properly you would have an excellent signal and there would never be any chance of the battery going out on you in the middle of a program.

Of course, I'm looking at it through my situation which may be different than most people since I primarily listen to the MET Opera channel and those operas are several hours long. I suppose I can see the need to have a radio with you if you are going to change stations all the time. But for ball games, Howard and other long talk shows, as well as complete Opera broadcasts, I think wireless headphones are the way to go thereby negating the need for a repeater.

shortspark,
Thanks for the tip on wireless headphones. I have a set and never thought about using them for that. Thanks. Mine are Sennheiser and the reception isn't the best in the house, but good enough.

I use a set of Motorola Bluetooth headphones and the Stereo Bluetooth transmitter. It works great, except when I want to change the channel. That would be the only reason to have the radio on my belt for me.

How much distance do you think you could get off a modded crane fm transmitter?

I seem to recall seeing on XMFan.

Edit: Do a search for "CCRANE FM Transmitter MOD" at XMFan. I'd post the links, but I'm uncertain about the legalities.

Pretty much it is a cheap XM-idea-based repeater... wasn't impressed when I saw it. In fact, my friend (who is a senior satellite analyst) has been asking what the status is on an in-home repeater for some time now.

Paintedantenna - any idea on the effective range of the repeater? Does the antenna hooked up to the Sirius tuner need a direct line of sight to the repeater station? Will additional antennas be available to use one repeater to broadcast to multiple tuners?

thanks for any info you can provide!

I checked the product sheet and it states "Up to 75 Feet"
At first I thought that was weak. But apparently that's the same as the XM one.

You will need to connect the repeater system to an Antenna that is getting signal strength. You will be able to use it with multiple tuners. You will just need to purchase more of the Repeater Receivers. Those would be about $50 each.

Default I'm not understanding something

What's the big deal ?

Isn't this exactly what the plug-n-play units do now ?

I have an X-ACT , plug-n-play down stairs and pick up what ever it's tuned to all over the house and even out in the yard by the pool.

its repeating the signal your radio uses, therefore you can have the actual unit next to you at the pool even if you had no reception.
