I don't think Stern is at all creative. I don't listen, but you still hear clips and see videos on the Internt. To me, Howie is the luckiest son of a bitch on the planet. Making large coin to be a curly haired freak.

Yes, he does have an incentive. It is M O N E Y! Total, absolute control over his show, the ability to say whatever he wants and a fat load of cash? He could live and work in Florida instead of having to commute to New York from time to time. I see it as a no brainer.

I have read quotes from him saying that when his current deal is up in 2010 that things would change in terms of content delivery. We'll see.

Oh, what the heck--I guess I'll bite.

Getting "radio" people we can get free isn't going to cut it--especially if you're sitting through all the same commercials. I listen to Coast to Coast AM with George Noory and Art Bell on XM, but now my local affiliate is going HD Radio. Pumping the same content will hurt sat radio if HD Radios start plummeting in price and penetrating the market.

Think outside the box. After all, Rush was just a pudgie and failed baseball PR/exec flunkie before getting a local Sacramento gig and developing his schtick before being plucked for national exposure. Sirius needs to develop programming and talent--it's their R&D. Keep working at it 'til a homegrown Stern emerges. Look what the Sopranos did for HBO--one big hit adds subs and wipes away the failures.

If I had to pick a name for a show Sirius should develop: Robin Williams. Add in Billy Crystal and Whoopee Goldberg. Insanity, live uncensored. Radio has the flexibility to do stuff like this--to work around locations and schedules. It can literally be called in. Get to the comedy and improv clubs and find the most promising, creative, insane, VERBAL people. I've listened to enough terr radio to know that is NOT the place to look for real talent.

Other than that, I don't know who Sirius should get--but I'll know when I hear them.

John & Jeff Thrid Shift and Micheal Savage (he won't be back I know, but it would be nice).

It is over, guys.

Sirius already got the only one that matters (besides Limbaugh) -- Stern. And they are in hock up to their noses because of it.

When you fork over $800 Million or more for one guy who isn't paying his way, you cannot simply go out and throw more money at more people.

Limbaugh is very committed to his terrestrial audience at this point. And not even SIRI would dare give him the hundreds of millions it would take to lure him at this point, now that they are faced with a financial train wreck from having overpaid Stern.

Both services have said that their high-paid content rampup is over. If there is some talented, low-paid guy who can grow into a position with either service, that would be great. But SIRI needs to get over the Stern disaster before they think about diving into the next one.

So you're saying that not even 1 million have signed up for Howard... you're saying that the bonus for "at least 2 million sign ups directly due to Stern" that Sirius gave him was just them being nice and that he hasn't brought anywhere near that over?? Also, that $200 million last year was part of the $500 million, not in addition to it.

Actually. no they aren't. Most (if not all) of Whoie's money was in the form of stock. Printing stock is a lot like when the government prints dollars. The people that pay for it are the one's holding all the other dollars (stocks) in the form of devalued paper. The stock recovered after he sold his big block and is trading near or above that mark today. His 11M share trade had no impact on stock price at all.

Aside from that, your assumption that he did nothing to add subscribers and is a loss would just be wrong. I signed up because of the publicity around Whoie and I have never listened to his show once. True, I had thought about it for a long time, but I didn't buy Sirius until Whoie started running his big mouth.

What did Sirius have before Whoie, 2 million subscribers? Now, a year or so later and they have 6.6 million? They added 900,000 in Q4 alone to XM's 250,000+. I would say that Whoie was worth it.

EDIT:
Oh, and when it comes right down to it Rush is comitted to his money before he is commited to any delivery medium. Enough of his listeners would follow him anywhere he would end up.

I thought Sirius had already made the $500m back in new sign-ups and sponsors in the first month Stern was on?

I used to listen to John and Jeff in Los Angeles on 97.1. I listened to them because they were on.

I'd be quite surprised if they actually brought any listeners. Does anyone remember they once used to be on both XM and SIRIUS. I've never seen a John and Jeff fanboard or bumper sticker. I think most of their audience are listening because it's just what happens to be on the radio in the factory and workplace at 2am.

BTW, I realize this is purely a matter of opinion.

I always post this when the topic comes up since it has a list of the Top Radio Talk Show Personalities.

http://www.amiannoying.com/(S(hvbj3x...ollection=6855

I would personally hire Leykis since his fan base is extremely loyal. Often times his listener parties attract 50-100 fans each.

People really need to very loyal in order to move over to satellite radio.

I guess I look at it purely from the standpoint of WHO is going to bring in subs
rather than what personality is going to bring more of a balance to the lineup.

I always liked Adam Carolla when he was on Loveline.
Oddly, I never heard as a guest on Stern, and I don't get his morning show where I live either.

I'd vote for some Loveline re-runs and any show with Adam.

Bubba the Love Sponge one day mentioned NEIL ROGERS from Miami, who is one of Talkers Magazine's Top 15 of all time. He also mentioned KEVIN MATTHEWS from Grand Rapids and formerly Chicago.

This is Wayne Edwards and I just want to point out that those were totally farcical posts. Lest anyone think they they were unbiased posts he said something in code, referring to Howard as "Howie" and "Whoie" indicative of brainwashing from a certain pair of low rated shock jocks. The posts were not legit. It's okay; we have them on every coast .

Was it Kid Chriss that did that water stunt that led to that girls death? If so, looks like he's looking for a job:

Yes, I subscribe to XM. No, I don't listen to O&A. Tried twice, but for all of the XM people that say O&A never bash Whoie, they did it for the entire 4 or 5 hours that I listened in. Railed on both him and Sirius forever.

Whoie goes back to when Whoie was on air in Cincinnati. I tried his show a time or two and couldn't get in the groove. Always stuck with Bob and Tom until their act wore thin on me. But us old timers in Northern Kentucky have been calling him Whoie for an awfully long time.

And most of Whoies money was in stock. Still a fact.
