Default Lifetime Membership... what if Sirius merges with XM?

I am considering getting the $500 lifetime membership. But i'm concerned w/ the future of Sirius. There is lots of speculation of Sirius merging w/ XM.

If the 2 companies merged, do you think we'd have a problem w/ the lifetime membership? Would the lifetime membership be cancelled?

If it's unknown, how about me requesting a written letter from Sirius stating that my lifetime membership will still be valid in the event of a merger?...

Thanks,
John

I have a lifetime sub on one of my radios. I'm not worried about it if they should merge, but I doubt that would happened. What's the worst they could do? They would just convert it over to a 39 month sub.

Plus, they would have to call the merged company Pooper Scoopers...

They won't take your $$ and run, don't worry. The lifetime memberships are likely going away whether there is a merger or not. So get one now if you are going to get one.

I wouldn't get it. The lifetime sub is only good for that receiver.

Offer ends June 30, 2007? I'm pretty sure i read just a couple weeks ago that the offer ends Jan 31, 2007. They just keep extending the deadline again and again!

Yeah, so it's not just one receiver. That's how it used to be. I think 3 transfers (4 total receivers) seems pretty good. I'm hoping by the time i'd get to the 4th receiver, that the quality of these things will be alot better...

The lifetime deal is never going away. It ends then it's renewed. Lifetime was offered well before I subscribed in 2004

Think of the bright side of a merger. Soon enough, a device would be capable of both Siriux and XM content. By the terms of your agreement, pay $75 and transfer the service and never pay again, hopefully.

Mel said something recently like he didn't like the lifetime sub because it is generally purchased by our biggest fans. In other words, I think Mel will get rid of it at some point in the future so don't wait to see if they extend it, this might be the last extension.

I got my Lifetime sub over 3 years ago for $399, now I'm listening for free except for the other receivers that are on the family plan.

one lifetime subscription is $499. so for four tuners that is just under $2000. No break, except that if you have a lifetime, you can get additional tuners for around $7 a month.
This is something people seem to forget, but even if your lifetime dies if you do go through four tuners, you can still get extra tuners at the 7 dollar price.

I think this is the way to go. We have 3 lifetime subscriptions, and it's great because after about 3 years you begin to get the radio for 'free'. And then if you want to upgrade to a different radio it only costs you $79. Not too bad if you can get a radio that lasts for 3 years!
