Default Free Lifetime Subscription?

I recently cancelled a Starmate3 when I bought a ST4. The Starmate was off when I cancelled it. I have yet to turn it back on, its been a month now. My question is: IF sirius stops sending the de-activation signal after another couple months, will I be able to turn my Starmate on and have it work forever?
Im not looking to scam Sirius at all, Im just curious as to how this works. I currently am paying for 4 subscriptions.

My Starmate stopped working, and even though it was under warranty, I didn't want the whole "ship to us and back" BS, so I bought a new one. I called to have them switch the account.

Then I got curious and reckless and took apart my old Starmate. Interesting how they connect the antenna, though I did have to break the FM transmit wire to get it open.

End result: A little bit of aluminum foil and solder and I have a fully functional Starmate again. I plug it in, it works! Great, now I have two car mounts, two radios and two remotes.....so I set it up in both cars.

Long story short, after about 3 months, it stopped working while I was driving down the road.....I think Sirius sends out deactivate signals every once in a while, if your radio is off at that time, no problem....if it is on, then it's deactivated.

I bought a stiletto and activated it and deactivated an old SIRIUS ONE player at the same time. The ONE player took about 2 weeks to deactivate itself. It has been my experience that even if it is off but plugged in, as long as it has reception, they can activate and deactivate. This happened when I activated my ONE player. I had accidentaly shut it off while on the phone with sirius. When I went back to it and turned it on it immediately said "Updated".
