Default THE BEAT // 66

This is the letter I just spilled into the comments box on The Beat regarding the atrocious nature of its programming and the repitition you can find on it:

Quote:
Listen. The Beat has become unlistenable. I beg of you...either drop the R&B crossover stuff (Jay-Z, Kelly Clarkson, Destiny's Child, Monica, Jennifer Lopez etc) or give us a pure dance station. "The Beat" has zero business being listed under the dance genre in its present state. I am no longer able to stomach "4 Strings" into "Jay-Z f/Beyonce". It just won't work anymore. However, I recognize that there are people out there that enjoy this hybrid nature of Rhythmic CHR and Dance, but the majority of us just cannot deal with it. The other dance streams provide little refuge for those of us who turn on a "dance" station expecting to hear BT, 4 Strings, Ian Van Dahl, Aurora, Sylver, and others WITHOUT having the R&B trash dropped in there. A "pure dance" stream would be much appreciated. A stream with no R&B remixes. A stream without "Independent Women" playing all day. A stream without the tired, flaky imaging from Eric Edwards. A station that would mimic the Energy 92-7&5 of Chicago less than Party 95.3 in Orlando. I will be removing The Beat from my presets for now. I was always told that Sirius had the upper hand on the dance streams, but I just don't see it. There are 6 stations streaming "dance", but I can't ever stand any of them, and I'm a very broad person when it comes to music tastes.

Along those same lines, there are details of the station the bug me. It's not uncommon to hear jocks introducing the wrong song. It's also not unheard of for the artists or song titles to be misspelled entirely. The lack of attention to detail gets on my nerves.

But not hear as much as hearing "Crazy in Love" on a 2 hour rotation.

Please, provide a refuge for those of us who came to Sirius looking for good dance streams. For now, we will all be hiding out on OutQ.
However, I'm limited to 500 characters for some reason, so I had to shorten it to:

A subscription rides on this.
I just can't deal with it anymore. Even as I speak, "50 Cent" is on a "dance hits" station. SPARE ME.

After consulting many of the people in my office who are not Sirius subscribers, we all agree that The Beat is, in its entirety, the absolute worst station of any kind on the entire planet.

Nobody was impressed by any of the stations we listened to today. After hearing US-1, The Beat, and some of the rock streams, nobody in this room would dare purchase Sirius. They said it was "too repetative" and it "strayed from what they said it was too much."

There you have it. SIGH

You told us what you told them. So, please, let us know what they tell you. I wonder if you will get anything more than a polite canned reply.

I agree with you completely Mr. BT , and I am also taking refuge at OutQ for the time being. It's all I can find entertaining enough to retain my subscriptions. I do hope they listen, and make some much needed changes. The Beat could be so much better!

YES! i agree 100%! long live energy 927&5, i live in north chicago and i've been looking for something even close to energy! "THE BEAT" could be this if they would just cut the crap, and give us are ture DANCE HITS station. I find my self listening to 62 The Rave much more then THE BEAT.. the rave seems to play more dance hits then the beat does in there mixs. And hey? How about a CLUBLAND UNDERGROUND? or some thing similar... we have 4 (i dont really count the disco one as dance.. haha) Lets make them something worth while!

...Thats it, im writing a letter..

(please note, im making this post while waiting in line at radio shack )

Not sure, but rumor has The Beat is one of the more popular streams on Sirius with the R&B mixes included. There was a recent survey done, and people seemed to like dance/rhythmic tunes on one stream, I wouldnt know, I do not know dance music one iota...R&B old and new is my forte. Maybe what you are hearing is very popular and you need a stream to play your mixes.

I seem to be in the minority here but I like The Beat the way it is. I enjoy hearing the extended rythmic versions of today's hits along with the hits of the 90's. The Beat is the only Dance station I listen to on Sirius. I requested a station like this to XM and they responded with "We are currently looking into this type of programming. Please provide a list of the artists and songs you would like to hear on this type of channel" I responded with "Tune into Sirius' The Beat // 66.
To each his own I guess.

I got rid of XM and went exclusively with SIRIUS... It seemed at the time SIRIUS was making all the right moves and the streams were just coming into their own. Now suddenly, I even find the repetition is beginning to get to me, but its not just The Beat and US-1, its several other streams too. I have sent email and I've yet to get a single solitary reply. Not even the canned ones. So, you know what my response is? When the new XM Roady comes out, I am buying one and I'll be back with XM again, because it just doesn't seem that having SIRIUS alone will cut it now. Then I ask myself.. Perhaps I'll end up with just XM... who knows. SIRIUS better get off its rearend and address the repetition issue or I have a feeling, I am not the only one that may end up with XM, commericals and all. Sad to say, but the truth is the truth!!!

OH don't worry, I am not giving up and not all the streams are terribly repetitive YET, so there is some relief, but I have been doing the entertainment streams more lately, which has sort of been cool.

I'm going to mail a letter in as soon as I stop procrastinating(I promise I'll stop starting next week), but in it, not only will I mention the issue, I'll mention that the Roady is looking mighty fine.

Oh, and BTW: If you do say you will cancel, make sure to say that you will throw away the receiver so that they won't have zero SAC on a new sub.

I've told this board over and over. If you want a "Energy 927/5" type Pure Dance station. Its over on XM's BPM now. They are doing a good job with the "dance hits". You'll hear new music adds every week. Not a couple a month like The Beat does. And definitley more in touch with fresh music than The Beat. For example, The Beat just added Galleon " So I begin" when BPM has been playing that all summer.

The Eric Edwards sweepers are gettin really tiresome. Especially since they are the same Ones, over and over... Whats that one? Email us your E-Quest. Can't stand that. I hear it all the time. And Gabriella isn't that in touch with the Dance audience. All she talks about is J-Lo and whats going on with, get this..... rap stars like 50 cents, P.Diddy,Missy or Jay Z!

I don't know, The Beat needs some Major work done. And where the hell is that guy, Geronimo? Notice he's hardly ever on during the peak hours whens he suppose to be scheduled. So their jockless at that time. How stupid!

I think you must have read my mind Ryan, I just said that yesterday.
Galleon - So I Begin isn't even new, C89.5 (KNHC) in Seattle was playing that song in late 01/early 02! It didn't last too long, so I don't know why its coming back as a hit NOW!

BPM has definitely improved, and in its current form I feel it is superior to The Beat. At least in the aspect of little to no R&B remixes.

I totally agree with you, BT. I am seriously regretting pulling the XM out of my car for what appeared at the time to be a better selection of dance channels on Sirius, because I can hardly stand them in their current state. I want my BPM back!

So, I Begin by Galleon was a monster hit while I was in France Paris and Nice in the Summer of 2001. I was sitting in a small, dare I say, gay club on the côte d'azur when I heard it for the first time and fell in love with it. It wasn't available for sale so the next time I went back in 3-02 I purchased it. I use to bug Ted Kelly on UPOP to play it all the time. Now it is becoming a hit in the USA. Too Cool.

Blink

PS Don't ask what << I >> was doing in a gay club in France, long story.

I took the liberty (haha) of writing down all the songs played for a 3.5 hour period on The Beat. It includes several song repeats, but i'm pretty sure that it's damn close to the WHOLE PLAYLIST on the stream itself.
