Default Sirius needs a mainstream CLUB channel

Having XM's BPM channel for a year before subscribing to Sirius, I think Sirius really needs to mainstream club channel like BPM.

Planet Dance is NOT the 'mainstream dance' channel.. it's definitely VERY underground.

The Beat is more Top-40 and KTU style dance.

So where is the mainstream Billboard Club dance music on Sirius?

I get BPM's weekly list and find most of the music are NOT played on Sirius.

I don't wanna keep another XM subscription just so I can hear mainstream club music!

P.S. OK.. some mixes on the Raves are very similar to BPM.. but I want a BPM-like station to fill the void.

I think instead of adding a channel, they just need to tweak The Beat. The Beat is already "Mainstream Dance" effectively, but some of the songs they play suck. They just need to tweak their programming, but we definetly don't need a new channel for "Mainstream Dance."

I agree with you that Planet Dance is Underground, and it should stay that way, and Sirius needs to put this on their channel guides and web site. It is far from "Mainstream Dance" IMO, but is an *awesome* channel that seems to have a lot of praise on this forum.

If they were to add another Dance channel, I think something in the guise of a Breakbeat/Drum n' Bass/Garage/Downtempo channel would be the first to add. Something that sounds different from all the "thump thump thump" of house, trance, etc. I think a channel like this would be huge and would be the icing on the cake to *complete* their dance lineup. They'd have all bases covered then...

But yeah, Sirius definetly needs to update their channel guides and web site with the new descriptions. The Vortex is Trance and Planet Dance is Underground, and it should say that in the writing.

Why not The Rave?

Don't touch The Beat, it's perfect.

I've been wanting to comment on how they've added more new stuff recently, as well as recurrents and 90s oh wows. It's been sounding awesome lately.

Call it 'Dance for Dummies' if you'd like, but it fills a big need for people who otherwise wouldn't be interesting in dance. Plus all of those great 90s high-energy tracks.

Jeff I totally agree with you. I love the Beat the way it is. I was never really into dance music but I love to turn on the Beat and here extended versions of top 40 songs with the 90's thrown in. No one ever talks about Planet Dance. Isn't that stream like BPM?

Yes, The Beat is just fine in my opinion... I've been kicking to it lately on and off. My son totally LOVES it! It never fails on those rare occasions that he and I go some place together that is what he'll have jammin. I was never into dance. He got the Streamer one day and plugged it in and it was already set on 66. He said.. WELL DAD.. you gettin kewl in your old age. LOL

I need a mental picture. Is the son 12 or 32?

Sirius needs a "Mainstream Club" Channel like BPM. They can be much better than a "Dance for Dummies" type station. Theres lots of great songs BPM plays that Sirius doesn't. These would fit perfectly on The Beat along with the 90's /Freestyle music they play. I'm sure lots of these songs would impress people who aren't totally into Dance that listen to The Beat as well. It sure beats hammering Hillary Duff, Lasgo and Avril Lavigne remixes to death.

Hillary Duff, Lasgo and Avril Lavigne.

Wonder if ANYBODY under 30 will know who any of these people are 25 years from now?

I tuned into the Beat tonight and I liked it. I will be listening more regularly. As a matter of fact all of the dance streams were exceptional. That wasn't my impression just a few months ago, so Sirius continues to improve and surprise

Yes yes and yes. You are 100% correct. I have had this problem as i now have to drive A LOT more with this new job, i'd admit, I am kinda a "niche" dance fan, looking for something close to the ex- energy 9275. The thing about energy was (at least for me being in chicago sub) i could ALWAYS have it on, and leave it on. There where songs i did not favor, but it wasn't to the point where i get angry and immediately turn the station. (HINT HINT the beat and Hillary Duffs "So yesterday" [mix]!) I always find my self constantly changing the channel.. I would love to see a chill out/niche dance format/Drum and bass/stream, ooh that would be nice.

Chill out... That would be a perfect replacement for say, HouseParty.

The Beat is Far from Energy 9275. I'll even go as far as saying The Beat is far from WKTU. Even KTU isn't as tight. Especially with Freestyle cuts.
I can see how if you haven't listen to The Beat in a few months, it would sound good right now. But for those who listen to it regularly, the repetition is bad. Its a real shame its programmed to be like that. And how come everytime I turn it on, I'm hearing an old J.LO song these days???!!!!

Let's write them and suggest it. You write this week week, I'll write next week. Anyone else want to write in about this?

Seriously, their Dance lineup really kicks, but this is the last channel that is needed, and honestly I think it's not a matter of if it's *when* they'll add such a channel. It's just a matter of time, but let's get a tiny email campaign going.

Something in the guise of a Breaks/Garage/Drum n' Bass/Downtempo channel would be incredible, and would sound different from all the other Dance streams.... I'll be sure and write them, anyone who thinks this would be a good suggestion, too, should do the same!

customercare@sirius-radio.com

It would be a good idea to provide them with your account #, too, so they know this suggestion is coming from subscribers. This is how they know to add a stream... by our suggestions!

Yes, doesn't it take all of a few minutes to do this? What is their hold up. I can't believe when they unveiled the new website they didn't incorporate these changes.

I think The Beat + Planet Dance sorta = a BPM.

IOW, Planet Dance picks up on some of the BPM songs the Beat never touches (like Tim Deluxe for example).

I'm still pissed that NO stream (except a few DJ mixes on the Rave) has played "You Promised Me" by In-Grid. It was number 1 on BPM.
Someone is REALLY SLEEPING on this one.

yeah, I did. I actually got a personal response back from one of the programmers to. They said they would give it another listen. But that was about three weeks ago. It's still in BPM's top 5 and its on a few FM dance station playlists, so I'm really baffled as to why it didn't get at least tried out.

Unless they just flat out don't like the song??

Don't get me wrong, I still think the dance on Sirius overall can't be beat, and these 5 streams alone are worth my 12.95/mo.
