Sort of akin to building on a cemetery.

As for the dance genre positioning, can't you groove to it?

Jeff
If you mean swaying back and forth from side to side. Sure... heck if I smoked pot it'd probably go even better with that. Hehe

But I dance to techno and hip-hop regularly (for about 10-12 hours on the weekends and sometimes I practice during the week). The techno (especially trance) goes with my liquid and waving dance styles And hip-hop goes with my popping and boogaloo dance styles (which are newer to me). Of course I mix it all up anyways and theres other things I do that I left out, but I think you'll get the point. Other than "what the hell is he talking about".

Edit: Oh what's this

Robert Miles - Children

Yeah I could dance to this. It's trancey enough heh.

Really.
I got hooked on it pretty quick too. Chill is quickly becoming my most listened to station. Another bit of good news is that my GF likes to listen to it while working on her homework. Anything that helps her 'chill' after stressing about Chem 2 is good in my book.

I started Grad School this past week and I am already swamped with work but I found that I can really concentrate on my homework while Chill is on. Listening to the radio while studying is something I could never do before as it was too distracting. Loving Chill.

I don't know - it just doesn't work for me the way the Vortex and Soundscapes did. Can't listen to it long enough to get hooked - it grates badly for some reason.

I can see it as an addition to the Dance spectrum, but not as a replacement for the Vortex...

I don't get quite the same experience as you do, unfortunately. And ultimately, I don't believe the station programmer is that good to actually take us on a musical journey. Some of the best DJ's in the world can barely do that with a lot of hard work and talent. I'll wager that it's more random playlists generated from music tagged as "chill". Of course, that is only my opinion.

The beauty of music is that it's like art.. we interpret it differently, feel it differently and enjoy it differently. No person can possibly have an authoritative say on music.

That said, I do enjoy quite a few songs on Chill. Listening in the car with Chill is not the ideal environment though.

To sum it up, I like the channel and would probably love it had it not replaced Vortex. For that, I'll always harbor a bit of animosity, however misguided that may be.

Just because one may not like the trip, doesn't mean it is not a journey!

I won't begrudge those who like Chill, but even if they had ADDED another trance stream and Chill, I still wouldn't like Chill. I do actually like the idea of downtempo electronic music with new age and classical pieces for quartets or smaller because they all can be very melodic, and I'm sure there are a few people out there that could put together a cohesive mix. I fervently believe, however, that current alternative rock, pop, and psychedelic rock (Pink Floyd, Doors) really foul the mix. I guess I still have a problem with hearing stuff on satellite radio that litters the FM dial, but that's clearly my hangup. :\

Hopefully you guys will continue to like it after the novelty of the eclectic mix wears off...somebody should be enoying that bandwidth.

Monday I was like: weird
Tuesday: hated it
Wednesday: intrigued
Thursay: pleasantlly suprised
Friday: on the fence

Don't see it being something I listen to for long periods....more like somehtig I check every so often to see what is playing....but I like it enough to have it on my top 5 presets and think it has potential.

Well, I was really REALLY tired last night, so I accidentally wrote in the "letter to Sirius" thread that I liked the channel because it plays so much unusual music you don't hear on any of the other stations.

That's still true. I just wanted to get that out in the right thread.

With some tuning and fixing, I could get used to this station over Soundscapes, actually. What it needs is less rock and more Chill music. Sarah McLachlan, though not overly powerful, should not be here. XM runs a program called Chill on XMU that's kind of interesting. I've never tried to sleep to it (it's never on when I go to bed) but it's good and relaxing for even kicking back, sipping a cold drink, and posting on your favorite radio message board.

I'd like more of that on this station. Someone needs to listen to a few weeks' worth of Chill programs on XM and make some adjustments, squeeze that in there with what they already have.

I was hooked on Chill after listening for about 10 min. I thought it was weird at first, but after about 10 min I was goin' to town with it.

And for people who don't enjoy Chill, I've added this smiley. Just the medicine they need.
