Is this a breaks station or a breakbeat station? If its truely home of the breaks that says to me its modern breaks. Which means the music should be something you would hear on a mix CD of a breaks DJ (ie DJ Icey). The roots of breaks is in hip hop and R&B but I dont want to hear hip hop and R&B on a breaks station. Not to mention if its labeled as a Dance station it shouldnt have any Hip Hop/R&B/Rap. We got Joey mixing on Shade 45 and Red Alert on Boombox. Sirius has some serious genre identity issues! How about letting the people in the know program the stations?!

I have to agree with Havoc. I primarily listen to Boombox, and Area 33. I really enjoy stuff like DJ Icey, Crystal Method, DJ Keoki, Chemical Brothers, etc. I think the channel would be much improved if they just dumped the old school stuff. There are times I just can't handle listening any longer because they play to much old school stuff. That is when I end up on Area 33.

Uhh...,, actually YES!
Someone said Joey Rivaldo and one of the other mixers shows are now going to be on once a week on "Shade 45" as a show called "Nobody listens to techno". (based on one of Shady's lyrics of course). Anyway, this makes zero sense. Just like the hip hop on "Boombox". Someone at Sirius has "genre idenity crisis"
It's ok for a channel like "Super Shuffle" that is supposed to mix genres all together, but the regular channels shouldn't be so mixed up. Put the old school hip hop on "Backspin" and move the mixers back from "Shade 45" to a dance channel.

IF that is true I stand corrected....I thought that was a joke?!? Did you actually listen to it?

Default I Was Listening to Boombox today...

Liquid Todd said that they're adding a new DJ to Boombox (I guess this Red Alert guy) and that would now make two djs on Boombox. Then he said they just need one more guy and they will have a complete radio station. At times, Boombox sounds good, but I'm turned off by it because they have to play hip-hop too. I'm so tired of dance stuff getting invaded by hip-hop. It seems that Liquid Todd is really getting his Boombox station "built up" now at the expense of Remix. Before we know it, Boombox will be at the ranks of The Beat in the world of the big wigs at Sirius. LISTEN TO WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT SIRIUS...AND WE DON'T WANT BOOMBOX!

I love Boombox. It is my favorite Channel. It plays New Breaks and old school breakbeat. I think Liquid Todd understand the Breakbeat genre and history quite well. Check out http://www.di.fm/edmguide/edmguide.html. Look at the history of Breakbeat and listen to the samples of the different genres. you'll see why Hip-hop fits in.

i remember seeing Orbital live a few times and in the middle of one of their most pumping songs they break into "heaven is a place on earth" by debbie gibson. lots of thumping beats mixed in, but it was still a riot. think they did that with a cheesy metal song too a few times.

red alert actually mixes up his music pretty well. not as much rap as you would think. i have heard some great breakbeat tunes during his show.

grandmaster flash on the other hand seems to play mostly hip-hop. i just switch over to cd at that point.
