Default The Gap between The Beat & XM's BPM is getting smaller

There was a time when BPM would play so much new music that The Beat never played or was late on. Now the gap appears to be smaller. Just look at the http://www.xmradio.com/pdf/bpm_chart.pdf . Most of these songs The Beat/Area 33 are playing. Only difference it may or may not be the same remix. Everything on The 33 1/3 chart top 10 is on The Beat. Is there just not enough good music for BPM to find these days? Geri Halliwells Ride It is one of them. Not a song that I dying to hear on Sirius anyways...

Oh there some songs that The Beat is playing that BPM isn't. Taxi Doll "Waiting" is one great song I don't see BPM playing although I did hear the remix on their mixshows.

I still prefer BPM. The Beat still plays too much hip hop.

But theres no personality on there. If they had more jocks it be better. And lets get real. They do repeat alot songs too. I do like their Weekend mixshows. This is how The Beat should do it on the weekends.

I still don't think "the Beat" has caught up to "BPM" musically yet. Yes, I agree that I like the personality and feel of "the Beat" much better, but musically, I like the sound of "BPM" better. A couple of tracks that have been huge on "BPM"'s chart that I haven't heard on "the Beat" are SK8's "Nation" and Infernal's "From Paris to Berlin". These are awesome songs and are among BPM's biggest hits and I haven't heard either on "the Beat".
My other pet peeve about "the Beat" is that they almost always choose the "housiest" mix they can find of every song. I wish they'd get out of that "New York house" mode and play some mixes that sound more like the stuff you hear in Europe. They need to play more pop/trance mixes and less house. Also, they need to not be afraid to play some import stuff. "BPM" will play imports quite often, but it seems that "the Beat" always waits for them to be released by an American label first. The Infernal track is a good example of an awesome import.
Anyway, I like the personality of "the Beat", but musically the music and certainly the mixes that are chosen are better on "BPM".

I like how BPM tends to pick the mix which is used in the video of the song. Many dance clubs that have a video bar will play the exact same BPM mix. This helps replicate the dance club experience a bit more.

Of course, every now and then, I like to hear a different mix. Mix shows are a good place for this.

Exactly, this is the primary reason The Beat is so inferior to BPM. The Beat have the policy to play only tracks released in USA. Sirius has mandated that hit stations like The Beat should play exclusively current chart hits. Very little dance music is actually being released in the US (small market). The result - The Beat has very limited playlist and repeats the few US releases to death.

Yes but as pointed out, BPM hasn't been adding many imports latley they use to. The topic is the gap between the two getting smaller. Yes theres some but there kinda slow latley...

And this is Bad news or Good News depending on your tastes in Dance. Sky of WKTU and WXXP is the new PD for BPM as of today. Could we be seeing BPM playing more of the NY Dance sound?

I'm going to remain cautiously optimistic. He's going to be programming a satellite radio station, not a New York station.

If I was PD of a radio station in a local market, I'd have to do some things I wouldn't want to do to meet the tastes of my market.

And this is why Area 33 has such a crappy playlist. They pretty much wait until Ultra and other US labels release trance singles. Usually its MONTHS after the song is released in promos. Why not grab some quality stuff direct from labels such as Armanda (and its sub labels), Ajunabeats, and Fundamental etc. Many trance tracks simply aren't released in the US under a US label (usually Ultra). I'm sure if Sirius contacted the euro labels, they would be more then happy to send them promos. So what do we get on Area 33's playlist? Alot of so-so progressive house (since its mostly what the US labels push out), and a few trance singles that were released months ago. Repeated again and again and again.... and again.

I agree with LASIRIUSFAN.

The Beat is definitely closing the gap. They're moving in the right direction, while BPM is pretty much stagnant.

And BPM is probably going to get worse, considering who their new PD is.
