Default RIP Slow Jamz 52

Another R&B adult channel bites the dust tonight. Its playlist gets jammed into Heart & Soul 51, along with classic R&B, funk, adult R&B, and others. Heart & Soul should be renamed the R&B Shuffle Channel!! Thanks to BJ Stone for the past 3.5 years of a classy channel, thanks to Chris Welch one of my fav Sirius jocks, TByrd, Sergio Dean, Merritt Anthony and Vic Williams. I truly hope to hear you all elsewhere on Sirius, good luck in your professions. Not a bright day for this Sirius subscriber indeed! :\

I was wondering about the dj's too. I guess the majority of them will just be canned from Sirius? I think the only time slot Heart & Soul doesn't have anyone working is 12-6am. I know T Byrd and BJ Stone are PD for 51 and 52, if I'm not mistaken. Sergio Dean, Merritt Anothony and Vic Williams might all be gone. I know Merritt Anthony does alot of sitting in for people on Soul Revue so we might still hear his voice. Sergio Dean would be a great voice for Sirius Love from 6-midnight with call in request imho...

Goodbye 52 and Thanks Sirius...Good Job....

Not sure if it's still the case, but last time I checked Sergio Dean also did late nights on Jazz Cafe.

I agree RIP slow jams.

Regarding the new streams and lineup changes; I've surfed around a bit this morning. Is anyone else feeling as underwhelmed as I am? :\ Don't know if y'all noticed this, but I happened to look at the last line on my Sportster display and noticed the category headings for Soul Town & Heart & Soul no longer read R&B, they now read hip-hop. Quite misleading if you ask me. You now must press the category button on the remote or the receiver to see the category the way it really should read, R&B/Hip-Hop. Wonder if Sirius is trying to send its few remaining old school R&B subscribers a message?

I noticed it this morning when I was looking at the clock on my PNP2 (my reciever is stuck on 50 since that's the last channel I recieved before I canceled) but I thought my mind was playing tricks on me. What a surprise it wasn't..

I took a nap listening to Slow Jamz. I already miss it.

Meanwhile, XM's R&B is starting to look very tempting.

I forsee a huge uptick in XM's subscriber numbers over the next several months as a result of Sirius' new music stream programming strategy. Over time, I believe Sirius will come to regret turning their backs on a demo that were brand loyal, had the income to back up their loyalty, praised the company to anyone who'd listen, convinced their friends and family to subscribe, and supported the company to the nth degree, only to be let down and crapped on by the company in return. I guess you can tell I'm a little bitter this morning . That said, I will still keep one Sirius subscription because of the NFL, NBA and Stern, yet as a result of their new programming strategy, will never again consider paying multiple subscriptions to this service until they decide it is in their best interest to change their strategy. And lastly, if Sirius were a music only sat service, and we were left with what we now have, I would cancel my lone subscription in a heartbeat and not give it a second thought.

You are so on point. As I said in another thread, I hope I haven't jumped on a sinking ship. I mean, I love the rock and pop stations as well the sports and comedy. I guess the dream of having everything you love in one place is not happening.

Yes, the category classification "hip Hop" and not including R&B is very disheartening indeed. If anything, the hip hop should be gone and R&B should be the title. They have just dumped on one of musics major music genres, and basically said, we dont care if we represent R&B very well or not. If I were a new potential R&B leaning subscriber and I was surfing the Sirius categories,I would think there wasnt any..oh wait there are only 2??? They are hidden in the hiphop category... WHY? That is almost none.....what has happened here? I know the R&B programmers at Sirius didnt do this to this important musical catagory....can we guess who did?

You know it Joe. Those guys are dedicated and love R&B. This was handed down very much against their suggestions I am sure. You know they must really be frustrated.

Default They think that 18yr olds are buying Sirius

That might be a good way to go in 3 or 4 years with 10 portable units out there, but right now people buy these things to go into cars. Do 17 and 18 year olds buy cars in numbers like 25+?? I would say no. This is the market they should target.

Oh well I will enjoy my XM for R&B and Sirius for Football

They are indeed. When you feel an important musical genre is being cut back time and time again, and the programmers have no say in it, that send a message--"we dont think this music or its demo is that important to us". In regular terrestrial radio (major markets) R&B remains a viable and large portion of programming, such formats as dance, reggae, folk, classical and others barely make a dent in most markets or format offerings. I am not saying any of these should be dumped from Sirius, I love niche programming, but if you truly believe more people listen to any of those formats than R&B, you are mistaken. Sirius does a mostly good job in its offerings, but even the best make mistakes and neglect certain genres and demos, XM has done it and so is Sirius. That is what the fans of R&B are trying tp get thru to the shirts. If this is such a small or unimportant format/genre, why do R&B programmed radio stations in most of the major markets in the USA do very well in the ratings? Why does R&B music outsell many others? Because it appeals to a large segment of the listener and music buyers. When XM offers 5 R&B formats (non hip hop) and Sirius gives us 2 , don't you wonder who is missing the boat here? XM is missing it in classic rock, and a couple others...Sirius is in the R&B catgeory.
