Post The R&B Selections on Sirius

Hey Everyone:

Please try to avoid flaming me. I am a lifetime subscribers to Sirius.

I would like some guidance regarding the R&B selections on Sirius. It seems to me that it is a bit limited. Are there any rumors or proof that Sirius will expand the R&B selections in the near or distant future?

Sirius lacks a quiet storm and other related smooth R&B stations. It really surprises me how minor the choice of stations is in the R&B department given how popular these stations are in many markets.

Since Sirius is missing these stations I am now listening to the other satellite radio provider via my ISP. I would much rather stick with Sirius so any suggestions are welcome.

There really seems to be an overabundance of Rock stations on Sirius. Don't get me wrong, I like Rock a bunch too. It would be nice if there was a balance.

Thanks for reading, listening and for any help,

Tom

Hey Tom. AZJoe is the guy to talk to about R+B. He knows the ins and outs of the genre.

From my experience, I think 51 is an amazing channel (one of my favorites) and 52 serves the need. However, it is clear that R+B is lacking, with only 2 real channels devoted to it. Unfortunately, in this case, XM probably has the upper hand. However, if guys like you and AZJoe, and FunkFreak keep calling and requesting more channels, I assume there's a possibility for more (considering the deficiency is clear).
Good luck!

The problem is Sirius had it right when they first started. There was The Express (old skool/funk), Slow Jamz(R&B ballads new & old), a R&B Hits channel (for currents and recent non rap hits),& Soul Revue (for the roots of soul/Motown/classic soul). Then, someone came in and thought that 4 channels could be combined into 2, what we have today- Heart & Soul and Soul Town. The fact is, having 50 years of R&B on just two channels doesnt really allow this music to be presented in the best way, it doesnt fit as well as it could over more channels. A soul song from the 50s doesnt follow up well with a tune from the 80s. Its like having Elvis and Buddy Holly being played along with Nickelback and Greenday, it just doesnt fit. But in their "wisdom", Sirius thinks R&B is all the same basically, and hip hop & rap are given priority.. I have been trying for 3 years to get The Express back with no luck, the ONLY way for it to return is if enough people contact Sirius and tell them they are ignoring an important genre and what it offers isn't enough. You can email Jay Clark , Sr VP for Programming-- JClark@siriusradio.com, let him know Sirius is really lacking in the R&B category and trails XM badly. The ideas you have stated were on Sirius, they were since taken off.....
