Post Linux Command Line Player

Hey i wrote a linux command line sirius online player in python.

Get it from http://eli.criffield.net/sipie/sipie

If you have any problems please reply to this thread and i'll see if i can help.

-- README --

sipie, the command line sirius on-line player for Linux

Pronounced SY PIE, like sirius python

sipie uses python, I tested it with 2.4 but it should work with anything later.
sipie uses mplayer <www.mplayerhq.hu> to play the actual stream,
you'll need it.

If you don't have mplayer someone has figured out an easy way to install
it for your distribution, check google to find out how.

You'll need Beautiful Soup, see
http://www.crummy.com/software/BeautifulSoup/

If you have python-setuptools, just run easy_install BeautifulSoup

If you don't have python-setuptools get it, On debian or ubuntu run
apt-get install python-setuptools, or on rpm based distros run
yum install python-setuptools

That should be the only library you need.

To run just copy sipie somewhere in your path
cp sipie ~/bin/sipie

Then Run it, and it will ask for your username, password
and if your a subscriber or a guest.

If you need to change your password
rm ~/.sipie/config and rerun sipie

Once thats setup sipie won't ask again. at the Enter Steam: prompt hit
<TAB> twice to see all streams or enter a few letters to then <TAB> to
complete the stream name.

You can also give the stream on the command line
$ sipie kidsstuff

Or you can make a link to sipie with the streams name
$ ln -s sipie kidsstuff
$ kiddstuff

Default Feedback

This is great! You may wish to add to your instructions that answering the captcha is still required, and that the program used to display it ('display') is part of the ImageMagick package. I didn't have ImageMagick installed and was manually opening the captcha.jpg until I figured it out :-)

Thanks again for a great program!

I have yet to try this as I am school right now, but at looking at the code, if a new station was to become available, then would we just have to change,
Code:
   defaultstreams = [ "siriushits1", "starlite", "siriuslove", "movineasy",
   "siriusgold", "60svibrations", "totally70s", "big80s", "thepulse",
   "thebridge", "bbcradio1", "supershuffle", "elvisradio", "classicvinyl",
   "classicrewind", "thevault", "jamon", "thespectrum", "buzzsaw",
   "octane", "altnation", "firstwave", "hairnation", "siriusdisorder",
   "undergroundgarage", "leftofcenter", "hardattack", "faction", "coffeehouse",
   "radiomargaritaville", "reggaerhythms", "rollingstonesradio", "thebridge",
   "area33", "boombox", "chill", "thebeat", "thestrobe", "hiphopnation",
   "backspin", "shade45", "hotjamz", "heartandsoul", "soultown",
   "newcountry", "primecountry", "theroadhouse", "outlawcountry",
   "bluegrass", "spirit", "revolution", "praise", "planetjazz", "jazzcafe",
   "purejazz", "spa73", "siriusblues", "standardtime", "broadwaysbest",
   "symphonyhall", "metropolitanopera", "siriuspops", "universolatino",
   "rumbon", "rollingstonesradio", "howardstern100", "howardstern101",
   "siriusstars", "siriusoutq", "siriuspatriot", "siriusleft",
   "bluecollarcomedy", "rawdog", "laughbreak", "kidsstuff", "siriusnflradio",
   "maximradio", "cosmopolitanradio", "marthastewartlivingradio",
   "playboyradio" ]
And add the station in that line of code?

Cool

Umm I dunno much of how sirius does things, though you might be able to get it to work by modifying this line
Code:
cf="%shost = 'www.sirius.com'\n"%cf
to something like
Code:
cf="%shost = 'www.siriuscanada.ca'\n"%cf

actully you can remove that line, Its in there just for debuging, It gets its list of streams online, If your a guest you won't have the same list as if your a subscriber. Also The new version shows whats playing

http://eli.criffield.net/sipie/sipie is the new version 1165125414

Be sure to read the readme
http://eli.criffield.net/sipie/sipie_README

Much Better config file.
Modular Interface,
If anyone whats to make a gui for it, all the backend work is done
Displays whats now playing, and saves it to ~/.sipie/playlist

Try it out
