Default Anyone else get dropouts on Pure Jazz ?

This is strange... I've only noticed it over the last few weeks. Sometimes when I listen to Pure Jazz, I get short pauses in the audio.

These pauses aren't really dropouts in the traditional sense because they happen when I have a full scale satellite signal showing. It's definitely not a signal reception problem.

I don't think it's my PNP2 receiver either because this ONLY happens on Pure Jazz.. If I switch to ANY other channel, the pauses don't occur.. When I switch back to Pure Jazz, I they start up again.

Before I blame Sirius, I'm wondering if anyone else is seeing this or if it's just me ??

Yes, I’ve noticed this and a friend of mine in a different area has noticed this too. We need to make sure the people at Sirius know about this too.

Yes, I have also noticed this. At first I thought it was my variable at home reception, but after reading your post I looked closer. I have the same problem of frequent slight drop-outs for 1 second or less.
Let us know if you hear anything from Sirius.

I was actually on this forum looking specifically for a topic on this... it's driving me nuts and seems completely isolated to this stream.
I'm thankful to learn it's not my radio but disappointed that Sirius would not move quickly to correct this if it's affecting everyone.

I also have noticed the music dropouts on Pure Jazz//72 for the last 4 or 5 weeks. All of the other channels are fine. The signal strength stays the same, just the music drops out.

I sent a message to Sirius and got the standard "thank you...we are forwarding your message to engineering...sorry for the inconvience" response.

It is still happening at times. I hope the fix it soon. It grates on my nerves.

Still happening on Sunday morning. I have written another e-mail.
The lack of response is very disheartening.

It is happening right now as I type (11:05 am CT).

Annoying.

yup, ever since the new lineup, stream 72 drops out while full signal.
usually 2 or 3 times for 2 or 3 seconds each, then it behaves for awhile.

Isolated to stream 72 best as I can tell, but if all the c/w stations
were doing it, I'd never know.

Apparently, it depends on which customer service rep responds to you whether you get an honest answer. Before I searched this forum to see how widespread the problem was, I contacted Sirius.

They actually admitted to me that they have been receiving numerous complaints about the same problem on Pure Jazz 72! They said they were forwarding all complaints "to the appropriate department."

Then I e-mailed them back with something else funny that I noticed, hoping it would help them further to troubleshoot the problem. I'll paste the text of my message at the end of this post so you can see if it matches what you are hearing. This time, the response I got back was to take the receiver to the manufacturer to have them check it for problems! What?!

Incidentally, I am having dropouts on channel 74 now, as well, but I'm pretty sure that's because there is a 4-inch coating of snow on the antenna.

--Following is the additional symptom I reported--

I have noticed another odd thing about this problem, which may help your engineers work toward a solution. During the "dropouts" on channel 72,
when
the audio resumes, it usually starts up again right where it left off.

Whereas an actual loss of signal should sound like this:

"What a great..." [silence] "...a terrific performer."

What I have been hearing is more like this:

"What a great..." [silence] "...voice she had. She really was a
terrific
performer."

Think in terms of a broken CD player randomly engaging the pause button
for
1-2 seconds and then releasing it, and you'll have a good picture of
what
I'm experiencing.

I just realized it might be a good idea to make sure we don't all have the same receiver. I doubt it's the case, but wouldn't it just figure that it would come down to a defect in one model?

Certainly it has nothing to do with location; I have seen posts about this problem from Washington State, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, New York, and I'm in Michigan.

Mine is a Sirius StarMate plug n' play unit, with an amber display and a lever instead of buttons for menu and channel selection. No markings to give a clue about the model number, and if Sirius isn't the manufacturer, I don't know who is.

All we need is one post from someone who has a completely different receiver, and we can put it to bed.

I've noticed the pauses on my:

Kenwood SR902 in the car
Kenwood DT-7000S at home
Kenwood H2A at the office
Sirius S50 at home

And it's only on 72. I remember reading that each Sirius channel has its own dedicated rack-mount equipment at the studio--I wonder if there's some glitch in the studio equipment for 72.

I also wrote to Customer Care a week ago and got a generic response. I wonder if Engineering is even getting the word? I wrote directly to a Pure Jazz program host, asking him to tell Engineering.
