Here is an interesting question. If you could eliminate any 3 steams what would they be? What 3 steams would you then add and why?

I will hold off on my 3s for the moment

Eliminate

1.
2.
3.

Add and why

1.
2.
3.

Eliminate:

1: 135 Sirius Entertainment (This could be moved to SIRIUS Sessions)
2: 95 Praise: Basically Urban Gospel (which is also on The Word Network)
3: 122 Sports By Line (can we say repeats) waste of a stream

Add
1: Family Based Comedy Stream (Current Channel is Raw)
2. Southern Gospel Stream (very popular in many FM Markets)
3. Cinemagic type stream like on XM, its very popular & SIRIUS should have one like it.

Now, I know you said 3 and 3, but I'd also be in favor of going back to one national weather stream, this would free three more streams for additional music channels: 90's Stream, Plus a couple of others I'd have to think about.

Eliminate

1. Stream 41- Planet Rhyme. Although I do think it is a Ok channel and have listened to often It could be combined in to one of my addition channels.

2. Any 1 of the 3 jazz Channels. I have never really listened to them but I suppose they could be combined

3. Stream 109- TWC Radio Network, National. We have 3 regional channels. When I want to listen my weather I go directly to my region and get the info their. I never use the National anymore. The national one is kind redundant.

Add

1.Soundtrack stream- Plays songs from movie soundtracks, I would love to hear songs from movies then it brings back mories when you went ot go see it and stuff.

2.90's stream- Self explainitory, music I grew up with.

3.World Hit Music Stream- Like US-1 but with world top 40 music. plays hit from europe and asia and other hits from the world.

Looking back on this, It was really hard to find one to take away, because each one seemed to fill a void or nitch, Coming up with new streams is easy, I just wish that you would not have to get rid of one just to add another. I guess it just comes down to demand, something I cannot rate, so those removals are just my personal opinion

Great topic Dave!

Deletions:
The Strobe (This stream is all over the place)
The Word, Court TV Plus or Sirius Talk (Better yet all of them...low listenership and poor programming)
Weather National (Regional weather stream make this unnecessary)

Additions:
90's (GenX/Y need to be represented if you want them as customers! This is a huge genre of music)
Ska/Surf (Ska is poised for a comeback)
Salsa/Latin

DABSter, isn't what you're looking for already on 95 Praise, or Word? I don't know much about religious music admittedly so I can't tell or not.

Anyway, my choices:

* Compress the four Weather Channel stations into just one, problem solved. Okay, just saying that is rather unfair so I'll add two more choices just because.
* ESPNEWS: They'd still have one ESPN channel and Sports Byline with news. Either that or scrap Sports Byline, as DABSter makes it sound pretty bad.
* CourtTV: That kind of programming just doesn't translate to radio.

3 new channels:

* TechTV. XM is still scrambling to find an alternative to the now-defunct CNET channel, so you might as well strike while the iron is hot.

* SOMETHING like XMU to keep on even footing in the all-important rock category. It doesn't have to try and be edgy or trendy, just play tunes that are hot out of the studio. And for chrissakes, hire some people who will listen to listeners! This kind of station requires dynamic action and paying attention to listener feedback so, "Thank you for your song suggestion we'll add it in 3-7 days" won't cut it.

* Finally, I'd bring back The Express, because although I didn't care for the music, there's a really big demographic that does.

Also if I were the Sirius big shot, I'd give Alt Nation a makeover, with a little more of a punk edge to it. And no, "punk" does not mean Avril or Jimmy Eat World. Keep that stuff on US-1. At the same time, Octane would be kept for nu-metal such as Saliva, Cold, TrustCompany, etc.

Sirius used to have TechTV, but the programming was stale...and that was before TechTV scaled back their operations 100%. (No more TechLive, etc.)

I think Tech programming would be cool, but definitely not TechTV.

Really? Geez, didn't know that one.

I guess there's really no viable alternative except while the tech industry crashes and burns. Shame too, since there's quite a few geeks and dweebs out there who have a Sirius, uhh, serious tech interest, and they're the ones usually adopting risky technologies. And it's not like they have to worry about advertiser sales like on the web.

Sirius successfully started their own gay channel. Could Sirius Computing or something be far behind?

I think Live & Original talk programming is the way to go. Not only does Sirius have full control over it...but it's so much better and more interactive than anything else that is out there.

Hopefully OutQ will be successful and they'll add other Sirius originated streams.

The Word is really more preaching than Music, but they do have Urban type Gospel quite often, which is what 95 Praise is. Its not a secret that black folks and white folks praise and worship is very different. So, this is geared really more towards black folks, which is okay, but there does not need to be two channels with the same programming.

The Spirit, is contemporary Christian pop music, its nice. But there is a gap here with NO Southern Gospel at all. In the last several years Southern Gospel has really taken off in a big way. In fact XM started The Stain Glass on America, with an hour of Southern Gospel like three or 4 hours a week at different times. The e-mail supporting this has been over whelming according to the programmer. In fact he claims XM is probably going to add a Southern Gospel Channel in the Fall.

I really don't look for SIRIUS to make any big dramatic changes like they just did anytime soon.

Yes, I hope the subscriber count takes off, as more callers will bring on more live talk. I know XM does the same thing sometimes. Their political talk is nothing but right-wing it seems, so I used to listen to "Make It Plain With Mark Thompson" on The Power over the course of March or so when I stumbled on it one day and heard his anti-war stuff. I don't listen to it anymore because I'm sure they've moved onto other issues, but I was pretty blown away to find out this show was produced at XM.

They could stand to put a show on Buzz or something besides the Clear Channel stuff and make it show that they care.

I was pretty blown away when I found out OutQ was being produced by Sirius.

Get Rid
1 Sportsbyline
2 weather(2 of them)

ADD
1 Nascar (not a fan but it would bring more subs)
2. Express
3. 90's

To the person that said a Jazz stream that would be a huge mistake. Loads of Jazz fans out there and they dumped Jazz Enclave last time.

I know that everone here wants a Family comedy channel, including myself, But do we need a Whole Channel dedicated to it?? How about making the current channel family friendly? 8 am to 8 pm G and PG with just a little PG13 mixed in, From 8 pm to 8 am would be adult friendly, playing R and Unrated jokes.

Personally I cannot see a need for two channels, but I do see a need for a more family comedy.

which time zone 8am-8pm? If it is EST, then there is no more family comedy channel after 5 on the west coast. If it is PST, then there isn't any comedy channel until 11am on the east coast. Also, XM has three comedy channels out of 30 talk/sports/entertainment stations.

My three:

take away:
Weather channel-nat'l
SportsByline
Planet Dance

replace with:
Decent sports channel
family comedy channel
