Another song for ya: The Eagles - Take it Easy. It has been played on The Rock, The Trend(IIRC) today, and it's on Totally 70s right now.

At least that graphic shows they have the right vision, just poor execution. With a little steering hopefully they will acheive their ideal.

Exactly, I must point out that this is not about raking Sirius over the coals.

It's about making the programming live up to its potential as the premium music service.

Guys, you have to realize that this is of utmost importance.

This man is going to turn Sirius into a musical wasteland unless we make our voice known.

4. Shorten the playlist. The more places a person can hear their favorite song, the less patience they have waiting to hear it.

One word: fuck. There is no way we will let Sabo take over Sirius music programming. I will not have it. If tweens want to listen to their music on a 1:30 rotation or less, they have Radio Disney.

Remember though: this is a report for teens, not adults.

According to my sources he already has taken over Sirius Music Programming. Scary. Email everybody to stop the madness.

Yes, but this is representative of his overall programming philosophy. Sabo will want to par down each stream's playlist to 300 songs or less.

It is likely already happening, we must work to stop it.

Ladies and Gentlemen of Sirius Backstage, DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE GRAVITY OF THIS POST

I truly believe that this is not a stream jock problem or even a programmer problem... this is coming from consultants who are telling Sirius:

Listen...You need subscribers NOW to keep financially viable, and the fastest way to get subscribers is to hit them hard and often with the "good stuff".

I personally disagree with that research sentiment, but it appears that corporate is not

Remember, us early adopters are the MINORITY when it comes to music...and they are targeting the MAJORITY now, and this is universal across all streams.

So, EVERYONE has to email them and call them and voice your thoughts. It is going to get worse before it gets better.

I'll add one final note, there are serveral reasons why Sirius will continually push the year, multi-year, or lifetime subscription...and one of those reasons is because if you sign up for that, they know the likely hood of you canceling your subscriptions dramatically reduces because you don't want to pay the penality - hence the fine line of irratating you with repeats but not enough to warrant paying the penalty...believe you me, this is something they strategized a long time ago.

SO EVEYONE .... PLEASE VOICE YOU THOUGHTS NOW

Not that we need any more ammo about why this Sabo guy is bad, but:

http://www.sabomedia.com/papers.php?id=28

Quote:
WE ARE NOT ABOUT THE MUSIC. WE ARE ABOUT THE AUDIENCE THAT LOVES THE MUSIC.
No radio company is on a mission to repress musicians. No company keeps "all the music" off the air. The appetite for obscure, noble garage bands is no greater today than it was pre-consolidation.

Yes, male teens are hungry for new music and they download it from the Internet. What do they download? Here's the top seller list from the cool, oh-so-hip Apple iTunes store for the week of May 24, 2003. In order:

Clocks Coldplay
One I Love. Coldplay
Miss Independent. Kelly Clarkson
Get the Party Started. Pink
Unwell (Live Acoustic) Matchbox Twenty
Hole in the World. The Eagles
Lose Yourself (Soundtrack Version)
Eminem. 8 Mile
Soak Up the Sun. Sheryl Crow
C'Mon C'Mon Rock Calling All Angels (Radio Version)

Looks like the cool kids are paying to hear the play list on Z-100, the Clear Channel CHR in New York City or KIIS in LA. (By the way, number 22 on the iTunes top download list is Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers.)
from:
http://www.sabomedia.com/papers.php?id=28

NEW Music? Hmm... let's see. Clocks by Coldplay came off an album relased in August of 2002 That Pink song is from NOVEMBER OF 2001 for God's sake! Unwell is from a Novermber of 2002 release (ok so that's an acoustic version... big deal... i think unwell is one of those songs that happened to appear on the CHR and "Alternative" charts in R&R at the same time) Lose Yourself is from Oct 2002, Soak up the Sun is from April 2002... so some of the other stuff on there was relatively new when that list was published...

Come on though NEW?

One final note. Sabo is the unique position to screw satellite radio for his own benefit. He mainly consults for terrestrial stations/networks and doens't need to see satellite radio survive. In fact he'd probably be better without it... or if he turned it into something harmless to FM...

SIRIUS - it's all about the music
SABO - WE ARE NOT ABOUT THE MUSIC. WE ARE ABOUT THE AUDIENCE THAT LOVES THE MUSIC.

I think that sums up what is wrong with Sirius right now.

US-1 and The Pulse is basicly an endless loop of that garbage.

Probably time to quit buying long term SIRIUS subs til we find out where SIRIUS is going. Lifetime service? OF WHAT? What will SIRIUS be like a year from now, much less three? Will it be a product I want? Do I know? Do they know? Should I take that risk?

LET THEM KNOW.

And write Joe Clayton. On paper. Directly.

At:

Joe Clayton, President
Sirius Satellite Radio
1221 Avenue of the Americas
New York, NY 10020

On things like this, snail mail is given MUCH more attention than email. Do BOTH.

I know its the weekend, and we have just started this... but has anyone gotten a real response other then the generic customer care form letter and snappy reply???

Lets keep each other posted... Although I am sure sirius hits these boards more then we even know.

Here is my latest take on the situation

The SABO consultants have taken over and have set up shop

This is a battle of company controll and stock ownership. And a majority stock holder seems to be calling the shots now.

They are dramatically changing the format

My hunch is that they are shortening playlist on the music channels and are going to concentrate on talk. It wouldn't surprise me at all, if the audio quality on the music side starts to deteriorate. Remember they are free to play commercials on the talk side

Keep those email messages coming and if you are a stock holder, please mention that as well - the BATTLE IS NOW !

Well I sure am glad that the FCC issued liscenses to TWO Sat Radio companies...

Only time will tell wich one will win the hearts of music enthusiasts. As of right now, Sirius WAS winning the battle.

Hate to say it... but if this is their new corporate attitude(and I think it is) you will see many subs drop... BUT you will also have many new people who are blind and just love their generic small playlists... they should stick with FM, sirius won't be much different if they keep at this pace.

~A truely saddened music fan. Thanks BOBO.

And remember: don't be afraid in snail mail to mention that you will be switching your sub(s) to XM if this does not stop within ________. That will have an impact, moreso than writing 10 letters saying stop. Sirius will react to losing money.
