Default Sirius is losing me, I'm Thinking about jumping to XM.

:\

Their 80's channels is so much better than Sirius. They play all the good hits that I never hear Big 80's play. With news about Sirius "tightening" up the playlist I'm thinking about adding XM to my car. I will still keep my H2A, but I'm sorry latley XM has been winning me over. If Big 80's would just expand their playlist some, it would be so much better. If The Beat, would just stop with the repetition, they would be better. Even The Rave is getting repetitive.. They replay the same Dj mixes alot!

If Sirius' idea of good radio, is repetiton than count me out. Hell their recepetion is not even that good especially in the Home with more drop outs than XM to even bother.

I think the repetition will be solved, it has to be.

As for the 80s, I don't think you can beat Big80s. Probably one of the top 10 streams on Sirius.

The Big 80's sounds good but you can get tired of those same songs. Sometimes they will sprinkle in something I havent heard in awhile but just not enough. All they have to do is look at XM's IT list and play some of those songs more often than the same ones. Also they never play my requests! Ok, they have but it was like a month later after several emails requesting to hear that song.

I love the Big 80's DJ's and the imaging over XM's. But Big 80's needs some improvement. Surprise their listeners more often.

Is it me, or is this issue so simple to resolve? I don't imagine those SJ's are spinning CDs on a console - all this music has got to be digitized in a computer - can't you just program the software to lock out a song for 24-48 hours or something after its been played? I am SURE there is enough 80's songs to fill a 24 hour commerical free period...

4 minutes per song, 15 songs per hour = 360 songs. Come ON!

I do understand how one song can end up in multiple streams, as it can be an 80's song AND be a love song AND be something else.

Just tell the computer to nix the repetitions, and password protect the sucker so the SJs can't screw with it.

Simple! Maybe I've been out in the sun too long...

I've had an idea of listing where and when it is being played so the SJs know how repetitive it is getting. Now my idea is to hack into their server, and delete Miss Independent, Drift Away, Tempted, Unwell, White Room, Are You Happy, Intuition, and a couple others.

They can absolutely do that, but that would be contrary to the advice and rumors that we are currently debating on several other threads

XM's 80's on 8 is a nice switch off, but I found myself getting really board with it. They play these little 30 second bites from the era and they play them over and over and over. GEEZ!!! Talk about get on your nerves after awhile. I can deal with the some of the repetition on SIRIUS as compared to XM repeating those stupid era jingles. They say they do it to give you the feeling of the 80's. Well I am sorry, but this is not the 80's and I just want to listen to 80's music, not recapture it.

I love The Big 80's, but I don't think XM's version is better by a long shot. They do seem to play a bit different selection from the 80's, but they repeat too. So, while what they are playing right now seems fresh it will get old. All these streams / channels need to open it up some. But my point is if you are going to XM thinking you'll get away from repeats, you won't.

The last week or two that I had XM, I found that the 80's channel and the Mix both were up to 6 minutes an hour in commercials. Not all the time, but during peak times for sure. What a big turn off compared to SIRIUS for me.

Well, here's my .02 on the 80's
I have always been perhaps more of a radio fan than a music fan. My first real experience with radio listening came in the early 80's when Z100 signed on the air in NYC. 20 years ago yesterday by the way! I love the CHR format. Jingles, sweepers, weather beds, DJ intereaction with the music and listener. I really should have been a DJ or atleast owned my own station . So for the 80's situation on both XM and Sirius, I enjoy the music better on XM but prefer to listen to Sirius' version. When listening to Sirius you feel like you are listening to top 40 the way it was played in the 80's. Very high energy, good feeling radio. Yes, Der Kommisar is played way too much but then again it was 18 years ago too.

Blink
PS Get both services if you can. They both offer some really good things.

I have both services but I really want more of the forgotten music on XM's 80's on 8 on the Big 80's. I don't care for all the jingles, movie clips and commercials on 80's on 8. I do like the Toe Jam mixes. They are a refreshing change a pace that could work on Big 80's. When it comes to presentation, Big 80's has 80's on 8 beat. They don't even have Jocks on today, its just a jukebox yet Sirius has Stream Jockeys on Big 80's even on a Sunday afternoon. But I want more Variety! I hear something on XM's 80's and say " Damn, Thats a good 80's song. Why can't Big 80's play that." Yet I turn on Big 80's and their playing "Our house" again.... :\

RyanCalifornia stated: "Hell their recepetion is not even that good especially in the Home with more drop outs than XM to even bother".

To the contrary: I have the Kenwood PNP in my house, I followed the instructions where to install the Antenna: West side of my house, here in New Jersey. I have had great reception. The satellites come across the center of the country. As for the Kenwood 469 unit in my car, I drove from NJ to Maine and back last week, no problem, I was in New York City last night, no problem. I have been extremely happy with the reception. As for the PNP, you must install the antenna in accordance with the installation instructions for the best reception.

I couldn't have said it better myself. There are so many that piss and moan about reception, but fail to follow the antenna placement guidelines.

Here is the placment info, in case you missed it.....

You can certainly make a pop-up happen asking "are you sure you want to do this?".

I like the 80s jingles and flashback stuff that XM does...

It reminds me of everything like Live Aid and stuff... and like someone said earlier, they do NOT re run them all the time or anything like that...

And today they do not have any DJs on which is nice for the weekend... we hear them during the week...

Sirius DJs are like the old top 40 djs... the music is ok.. XM 8 plays a lot more cool stuff though that you wouldn't expect.

After being a new Sirius person, I wouldn't say the 80s on Sirius is a strong point.. there are a lot better streams.

Yes, many folks have said they like them. Unfornately I am not one of them. Of course I don't have to worry about it these days.

They don't rerun them all the time? They must have changed it in the last two weeks since I cancelled, cause they sure did it before then. OVER AND OVER AND OVER!!! In fact there are many threads on XMFan where members were saying.. enough already... add some new ones and quit playing them. Perhaps they finally listened.

No its not the best stream they have for sure.. but long as its better than XM's version that makes me happy. There is no doubt that XM is more exclectic than SIRIUS, so much so that sometimes on some of their decades channels, I was like... uh.. was that I hit, cause its strange even though I lived and partied through that decade.. I never one time every heard that song. I prefer the hits and there are lots of them and my one bone to pick with SIRIUS is that they don't play a big enough variety of them. But don't just chunk in something from the eighties that no one ever heard as filler, that just pisses me off. This is what XM did when I listened to many of their streams. But again, there are those that like it, so they should get XM. I don't want SIRIUS to sound like XM.. PLEASE!!!
