Default Christmas music?

I remember as a kid (I'm 32 years old), riding with the family to grandma's house for Chrsitmas. My dad would tune in an AM station that was playing Christmas music and we'd listen to it for much of the way, until the station was too weak to continue listening to, then we'd change stations. I love listening to Christmas music. It is my favorite holiday. There is nothing like listening to Christmas music and seeing Christmas decorations to get into the spirit. I enjoy nearly all kinds of Christmas music. I like variety. I love Chirstmas spoof songs too (i.e. Twisted Christmas). I'm thinking Sirius would be the perfect place for Christmas music. I have noticed that on broadcast AM and FM, it is getting harder and harder to find Christmas music in late November and December. I have found that if I want to hear Christmas music, I have to buy CDs. That can be a bit of a pain, since I'll be hearing the same thing over and over, mostly in a predictable order. I know I can choose random order, but it generally delays things between songs and doesn't reduce repitition... only changes predictability. I purchased my Sirius radio in late January, so I don't know if Sirius already has done it, but I'd REALLY like to see a Christmas Music stream. Does anyone know if Sirius has plans for a Christmas or Holiday stream? I have Dish Network at home, and I know they do a Holiday channel every year, but I can only listen to that when I'm home. I'm hoping for something while "on the road".

I thought I read that Sirius had a Christmas stream last year. If they don't do it this year, I'll have to listen to FM radio since the soft rock station becomes all Christmas 24/7 around Thanksgiving.

I was not a Sirius subscriber last year, but I would bet that they will have a channel designated for Holiday music. I also think we will hear the holiday sounds on many of the other streams. I know that my local FMs play Christmas music from Thanksgiving until New Years with a 24 hour thing on Christmas Day.

Just a side note -- I went to do some shopping today and there were already Christmas trees decorated and light in the stores. It gets earlier and earlier every year.

Last year's 'Sirius Sounds Of The Season' was great.

The Galaxy (now Sirius Sessions) was 24/7 Holiday music from Nov. 14 till after New Years. I emailed Customer Care to see when it would begin this year and they of course didn't know.

Quote:
Sirius Satellite Radio, the premier satellite radio broadcaster, is delivering a special gift for its listeners this holiday season, including a very merry special programming feature. Beginning November 14, Sirius presents the "Sirius Sounds Of The Season" on The Galaxy channel 100 on Sirius 24-7 throughout the holiday season. The feature will include celebratory songs of the season from every music genre including rock and roll, country, R&B, jazz, and pop, along with holiday greetings to Sirius listeners from dozens of top entertainers including Brian McKnight, Lisa Loeb, George Clinton and Diana Krall. Tune in to hear a holiday stocking full of tunes from an incredible range of artists including Alan Jackson, Adam Sandler, Bing Crosby, Bruce Springsteen, Celine Dion and Dean Martin. Sirius will also feature vignettes about the seasonal holidays Christmas, Hanukkah, Ramadan and Kwanzaa. Only Sirius broadcasts 60 original music channels, with no commercials ever, and 40 world-class sports, news and entertainment channels.

Default Christmas Music Sucks

I hate listening to christmas music, I hope they don't play it on all of the stations...I believe they should just dedicate one station to only Christmas Music...I've had my radio for over 3 months and I'm loving it...Wish I would have found about about Mike Church a little sooner...Go Mike....Love the show...

There will be streams that won't play it and if they do it will be very minimal... However, there will be at least one if not two dedicated Christmas streams and you are welcome to block them.

I kind of agree with one of the above posters that said they hope Christmas music is designated to one channel and not scattered throughout the dial.

I will give my reason for this. I enjoy Christman music and when I am shopping, baking, decorating, etc, I want to listen to the sounds of the season. However, there have been times in my life when the last thing I wanted to think about was christmas (broken romances, death of a parent, etc.,) and being reminded every other song that this was not going to be a very festive holiday was pretty hard to deal with. I'm sure I'm not the only one that has ever felt this way. I'm not trying to lay a heavy emotional trip on anyone, but I think if Sirius used one or two channels to play holiday music, that should be enough and other channels can continue to play whatever genre they specialize in. Just my opinion.

Those of you who know me know I have been through my own personal crises this year. One of the worst is STILL hard to talk about. This Christmas is going to be very, very hard for me.

And for some odd reason, THAT song, of all things, gives me comfort.

I hope they play it.

Really.

Some things can't be explained. This will be the first Christmas ever that my Dad WON'T be there with us. Now or ever again. And still, that song of all things, brings comfort. He always liked it. Loved it is more like it.

So yes, I will be equesting the silly thing. And finding some peace.

See, even that silly song has its purpose!
