Default Horizons - what an interesting channel

Just got back from a six hour drive from Burlington, VT to my house and mid-way through, I select Horizons out of pure boredom and also looking for a channel that the whole family would enjoy and boom - this is the one.

Perfect background music. Kitaro put the kids to sleep and the host of other muscians made the long ride a pleasant journey. Of course secretely, I was dying to put on HardAttack but that just wasn't going to happen on this trip.

The other nice thing was no annoying DJ interrupting the mood. This could be a good channel for other activities that come to mind.

You won't think so tomorrow because the programming will be totally different. You were hearing Soundscapes on Horizon's and that is only played on Sunday's. So what you were enjoying is Soundscapes, which use to have its own channel before the brains at Sirius decided a new age/ambient genre channel was just not necessary.

See Sirius, here's a excellent example of why Soundscapes needs to return. The man didn't even know what he was listening to, just knew he liked it. Showing this is a genre that is liked by not just the older subs.

I couldn't agree more! I was camping up in Maine this past weekend and brought both my Sirius and XM units. To lull me to sleep I listened to Audio Visions on XM only because Sirius lacks a full-time New Age channel.

DAB is so right! Why the "brains" at Sirius decided to remove this wonderful music from the every-day lineup is one of the great mysteries. I eagerly await its return, so I can re-subscribe to Sirius. Soundscapes is urgently needed NOW!!!!

You have got to be sh@tting me! This is going away? That sucks, however, it goes to show you that those surveys they put out from time to time are probably what drives channel turn over.

What else could be driving channel turn over?

The full time channel was taken away over a year ago now. What you were hearing was a 24 hour program for Soundscapes that Sirius airs on Horizon's. I don't think its going away, but you can only hear it on Sunday's. Horizon's is totally different at other times except Sunday.

I agree. Big hole in the programming. Sirius, please take one of the 17 rock channels and give it back to Soundscapes! We'll listen to George Thorogood on the other 16.

Well, I'm okay with John Roberts too. But let's not make a habit of this!

I feel like I need to reply here too.

This is my first post (so be kind)...I just activated my Sirius subscription a couple of days ago after buying a Sportster Replay.

I researched XM vs Siruis for several weeks. I used the trial on both (3 days is far too short for a trial btw). I actually ended up subscribing to the XM Online-only for a while and wished Sirius had something similar.

I was really hung up on the lack of a NewAge station on Sirius. I loved the Soundscapes that I heard on Sunday on Horizons (also didn't know it was different on Sundays until I tried listening again on Monday).

What finally sold me on Sirius was the classic rock lineup that I also listen to, along with the Sportster Replay hardware. I also really liked the attitudes of the people in these forums (XM supporters just seem to get more defensive more easily

Anyway, just in case anyone at Sirius reads these forums, I just wanted to say that you almost lost a customer because of your lack of a NewAge channel, and I think if you are going to keep competing with XM, you need to try as hard as possible to build a channel lineup that is *better* than XM, and that means adding a fulltime NewAge music.

I want to listen to Enya, Yanni, Tangerine Dream, Jean-Michel-Jarre, Vangelis, Kitaro, etc. I could easily fill a 24/7 playlist with just my own collection of CDs. But I want to hear this via satellite on Sirius!

Thanks for listening to my ramble.

Welcome to Siriusbackstage MikeP.!

New Age is one of the most popular niche formats on the planet. We all agree with ya here.
