Tell me this...

How hard can it be to stream censored music to Sprint and uncensored to regular Sirius subscribers? Aren't the song lengths and everything pretty much the same? It's just a bleep, replacement word, or blank space so everything should pretty much line up.

I'm sure all the songs at Sirius are indexed and stuck in a harddrive for airplay. They should devise a parallel version of the song that streams to companies they get contracts with. As time progresses it would seem they would partner with more companies than just Sprint. What will happen then? Will Sirius slowly become completely censored?

Something tells me that this would be to involved for them to do it.

well this is crap- There is a good chance I won't be renewing my sub next year. I guess I will never hear Dead Kennedys Too Drunk to F@#$ again. You can't censor that one and have it be anything near its original artist intent...

It should NOT be the job of Sirius to alter these songs or to seek out the "family friendly" versions. You want your child listening to the latest radio-edit versions of gangsta rap? Go get the CD from Walmart, where they are all about "family friendly". The whole argument about which genres deserve editing and which don't is plainly silly. If the artist fits the genre, and decided to put in some "dirty" words, then either deal with it, or don't listen to it. It's not the corporate world who should be concerned about what your kids listen to. It is your job as a parent and yours alone to screen BEFORE the fact what your child listens to.
I couldn't have said it better myself.

Don't get all besides yourself. Alot of things are discussed here before they happen. Many things do not happen at all. How about wait out the wave and see what happens here.

I knew this shit would happen....in the beginning its always great, then eventually you get bullshit censorship and the next thing you know COMMERCIALS!! Money Talks, bullshit runs the marathon. Its just a matter of time.... you think big business doesn't see how huge a cash cow satellite radio is? They'll be trying to shove so much money at Sirius and XM that before long you'll be paying $12.95 for FM radio again.

There will never be commercials, there has been so much hype about it not having them I think it would look really bad if they added them. I used to think there would be sooner or later but now I'm not so sure.

Well, it sounds like the censorship has started, but if the F-bomb was dropped that makes things confusing, could it be certain songs or what?

Or perhaps they haven't cleaned up their whole collection yet or are still working on technical issues. I heard some editting versions of songs they usually play whole on stations that frequently play them.

You know, I'm not happy about this. Its not that I need to hear cursing, but what's next? Must Sirius ALSO cater to the lowerst common denominator?

Besides, radio edits generally suck -- shorter, more compression, etc.

I hope the censorship was an accident or that they've decided against it. I'm in favor of censoring pop stations like Hits 1 and Pulse (and of course kids stations) but leave the other stations alone! I usually don't listen to a lot of stations that would need to censor, but it really annoys me to hears bleeps or words that I know are not the original.
Sprint should not control Sirius, Sirius should decide on its content and then Sprint can either play it or not.

They have the two comedy channels one uncensored and one that I never listen to, so how about for the channels that they wnat to play radio edits for they just making another station, with really low bandwith, like the weather channels, that they can play the FCC approved music on ?

I mean its like 4 extra channels, one modern rock, one hip hop, one punk/rap and First Wave, which I don't know a whole lot of songs that will need to be censored on FW, but i'm sure the first time I hear one that is I won't like it.

I wonder what Howard would say about this ? I mean if they going to do this to these channels what would keep them from doing it to Howard ?

The thing about censorship is once it starts it never stops. The part I really don't like is that they made this change behind the scenes like we wouldn't notice or care. Shame on you Mel. We are smarter then that.

Atleast you could have warned us it was coming.

I start hearing a song with radio edits in it and I have to change the channel. It does make me mad. Stop trying to be so damn politically correct everyone!!! If I'm listening to Octane or Faction, I expect swearing in there because thats what lyrics are on those songs! I might be upset if I heard the F-bomb dropped on Sirius Pops (I actually wouldn't care but I could see people being upset then).
