Censored songs on AltNation was the straw that drove me to XM. Right now I have XM and Sirius, but I'm not going to keep both and will choose by the end of Sept. I originally picked Sirius because XM didn't have 100% commercial-free music, although that changed right when I subscribed. Censorship wasn't a factor in choosing Sirius over XM, but it was a major factor in going to satellite in the first place.

Of course some streams should be censored or play radio edits, and until lately I thought Sirius had a good handle on this. Maybe I'm just jaded, but it seems like Sirius is becoming more and more about hype and gimmicks, the cell phone deal is a perfect example.

I got satellite radio for the music. They can play around with celeb hosts, cell phone streaming, video, etc. all they want, but when they <BLEEP> with the music, my subscription is over. Unless there's a sudden change in Sirius's censorship policy, as well as the boredom on 21 and 26, I will follow the music. On many levels I'd rather be with Sirius than XM, but Sirius is giving me less and less of what I'm <BLEEP>ing paying them for.

I've been paying attention the past couple of days and haven't noticed any censorship on Octane, Alt Nation or Faction. I hope they are reconsidering their decision to censor these channels.

If this continues I strongly encourage everyone who has the Sprint service to drop it in favor of another carrier. Even if it means breaking your contract and having to pay early termination fees...just do it. Let them know that you will not support censorship in any form or fashion.

I can say that the biggest reason for me getting satellite radio was that the FCC wasn't going to be involved, the biggest reason I picked Sirius was Howard. If they are going to start censoring music I am fearful of what they might do to Howard as well. If I start hearing alot of censored songs I will just switch to XM. My head unit is compatable with both I just need a new tuner so it cost a few dollars. There is no reason why Sirius can't offer listens a choice. Add a few more stream that are same type of music. One for those of us that like our music raw, and one for people who that like censorship. This way Sirius doesn't have to lose some subscribers just to get a few others.

I don't understand why they won't send a clean looped version to the idiots who want to listen on their phones, and leave the sat. feeds alone. People who would listen to radio 24/7 on a freaking cell phone would be too stupid to know the difference.

They could very well be considering this as an option.

When I signed up for Sirius, it was more for the commercial free music, but after I realized that the music was unedited, I fell in love with it. I did not realize how many songs are actually censored on FM.

Now with that said, I mostly listen to New Country 31 and they do not have many uncensored songs there, but when listening to Hits1 and Alt Nation, I enjoyoed listening to the original song. Heck, even on Hair Nation 23, I enjoy listening to the uncensored versions and the Dj's every once in a while drop the F-bomb.

I guess I will have to listen to the Radio Chick tomorrow and hope she discusses it then instead of having missed the discussions because I have not listened to her for a few days online. They drop the F-bomb all the time, but I am ok with that. I chose to listen to that and if I did not like it, I (like a lot of people in here) would not listen.

Change the damn channel if you do not want to listen to a certain type of music or watch a certain type of television show.

Have a great day all.

Well, I'm a little late to this thread but I am still pretty upset about it. As an adult, radio edits really bother me. Sometimes I don't notice them but when I do, I just kind of look at the radio in disgust. Sirius is not my mother. If you can't play the original song then don't play it at all. But I have a couple of other points.

1) The whole "What about the children?" thing. Change the fucking channel. I like Faction. I don't listen to Faction with my son in the car. I listen to channel 1 or 9 or the news. I have less of a problem with radio edits on the pop channels.

2) Which brings us to the real problem I think most of us have. The channels they are choosing to censor. This thread wouldn't be a page long if Sirius said they were going to censor the Elvis channel or Pulse or Bridge or Sirius One. But putting radio edits to Faction borders on the bizarre. Same with Alt21. Play the edit of NIN or Green Day on Pulse, but please spare us the insult of hearing that on Alt21.

3) The Sirius response of "Well, you can listen to Shade45 if you want uncensored." Great. If you like Shade45. Don't hear too much of Alt21s or Factions programming on Shade45.

4)Finally, what is the real problem Sirius is trying to address here? Is it really the music or is it the DJs and callers and such. A quick "fuck" in a song can almost go right over your head. But a few nights ago on Alt21, I heard a caller, wasted, and a DJ go on for a couple minutes and between them must of said some variation of fuck like 30 times. Hard to miss that exchange. Of course, I could have changed the channel to 12. But I didn't. Because this freedom the DJs have is why I have Sirius on 2 receivers. If I wanted more Clear Channel clones on the Super Deluxe Happy Hour with Ted and Jane on K-Hits, well, I would have stuck with free radio and my MP3s.

And one other thing, the day they censor/drop the bong gurgle station ID on Jam On! is the day I cancel. Grow up Sirius.

I don't think they'll mess with the Talk Shows because it's freedom of speech and a reason Howard joined up. Shade45 isn't going to be touched cause it's a bring draw for the hip hop fans. It's those channels like Hot Jamz and others Sirius are in charge of. I use to think XM's City sucked cause of all the radio edits but Hot Jamz is gettig there very quickly.

I have had SprintPCS for the past 2 years and am seriously considering that. My contract with them ended in May and I'm just paying month to month now, so Cingular or T-Mobile are looking pretty good.

But you were considering doing this even before this deal was announced right? I mean you aren't doing this just because of the Sprint deal with Sirius.

I can't see many folks eating $125 to $175 termination fees when many folks have bitched about Sirius's $75.00 early termination fee. I can see in your case where your contract is already expired hitting the road, but paying a penalty will only cost the individual and will have ZERO impact on the Sprint/Sirius deal.

I know I'm getting in this thread extremely late, but I rarely hear music on Alt Nation that needs much sensoring anyways. I would still prefer no censoring at all though.

I'm absolutely positively against censorship on Rock and Hip-hop channels. In a friends car I was listening to The Buzz in Houston and they played "Freedom" by Rage Against the Machine. I haven't heard the edited version of that song in years and I was a little surprised because the whole ending of the song was chopped off! It destroyed the song. I got Sirius because I didn't want commercials and censorship. I want to hear the song as it was intended to be heard by the artist that created it. C-mon, where else in the broadcast world can we turn to hear unedited music? Must we be forced back to our CDs and IPODs just to hear the original unedited versions? Yes, censorship does belong on some channels because it's just not appropriate for the format, but not rock and hip-hop! As for Sprint, I can't stand that company and was so happy to ditch them the second my contract expired. So let me get this straight, Sirius is changing the way we hear our music just so someone can stream a mono feed on their cell phone? That is absolutely rediculous. WE are the Sirius subscribers, not the Sprint customers. We should have the say, not them!

I just discovered Sirius' secret weapon against those filthy mouthed artists. Just don't tell anyone!

Feast your eyes on the.............. SIRIUS SANITIZER 3000!

It's simple really. First, the filthy music is pumped into the sanitizer at the bottom (See below). Next, the music travels upwards through 20 filters containing newly patented space age polimers. Once it reaches the top, the once filthy vile music is now pure enough to meet even Ozzie and Harriet's toughest standards. Finally, the music is transferred from the sanitizer via a special conduit direct to wholesome Sirius and Sprint listeners everywhere!
