Signal strength varies depending on geography and your driving routes. The only drop outs I experience in NYC is when I go through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel.

When I had my Xm radio, my signal would go off and on when I drove from work traveling from north to south. When I travel that way again, I cannot wait to see what my new Starmate does.

I see a lot of people commenting that Sirius' home reception is terrible and requires that you mount the antenna outside on the roof. It has also been my experience that the antenna needs to be outside, but the only requirement for good reception is a clear, unobstructed view of the sky. Certainly you will get THE BEST reception by mounting the antenna on the roof, especially if you have a lot of trees around your house, but it isn't necessary.

Just wanted to share my own solution to the problem. First I tried just resting the antenna on an external windowsill, but still had dropouts at certain times of the day. So I moved out a few yards further into the front yard, ran a wooden stake into the ground amidst some landscaping, and mounted the antenna to that. It isn't any higher than 2 feet off the ground, but it has a clear view of the sky and I've never had a dropout since. The antenna cable is buried under mulch. The antenna is very inconspicuously hidden in a bush; I just have to make sure to keep the bush trimmed so that its branches dont grow taller than the antenna and block its view of the sky. Dead simple.

I only wish I had a photograph to post to document my incredible cleverness, but I don't. Guess I ain't that clever afterall.

Where there's a will, there's a way.

Glad you found a not too difficult solution, RyeGuy.
