Default Former XM Listener now a Sirius Listener

I had to do it. One year ago I swore I would never listen to anything but XM.

With Maragritaville, the SEC, and other cool stuff to come I had no choice.

Today I bought a Starmate and here I am.

I hope I don't regret my choice.

The one thing I have noticed is that the Sirius antenna does not pick up as well as XM.

I need to do a little more research as I am sure there is answer to this.

I have Sirius and XM and I get a signal with Sirius better in most places. Where do you live? Where is your antenna?

I live in South Texas.

I need to get a compass and see which way my antenna needs to be aimed.

On your car straight up, should be mounted on the roof.

At home

Welcome to SBS and Sirius!

Anyone who knows me really well knows that I hate that map. Put it on your roof and point that baby straight up.

It maybe the case that you point it straight up in your location, but if I do that in my location my signal strength drops down significantly, but pointing it due north provides the best signal strength. I can't verify the map is correct in all areas, but certainly in mine it is.

I never have to move my antenna in my house, and it looking right into a wall. 3 bars all the time unless the microwave is on, but there is nothing you can do about that.

Welcome and here's my $0.02: A problem with Sirius is poor indoor reception. If you don't have the right exposure, or if you have overhanging trees, you may be SOL. But do like SISO says and throw the antenna up on the roof.

Welcome to the fam...I have my antenna indoors and usually get good signal. Though sometimes I have to move it between two different places. One my window and the other facing a wall North (I live in West Tennessee.) If it doesnt work in one it works the other and vice versa. It always works in one of them though but never both at the same time. Its kinda weird.

This station seems to be bringing quite a few to Sirius.

I know Jimmy goes back on tour this week so he will be talking it up at the concerts, but they should consider a litlle advertising to let people know about it.

Default ME TOO!

I had XM for a year, and thought it was okay. I love sports talk and news talk in general. Never really enjoyed the music programming on XM. Well I had been planning to switch because I wanted to listen to the NFL and college sports. This past friday, my wife surprised me with my first Sirius PNP radio, and OH MY GOD! It is wonderful. Listened to the Chiefs on Friday night, have been listening to the NFL channel, and every time I turn the thing on there are at least two or three songs that I like to choose from.

It is awesome!

By the way, as for reception, my personal experience is that I have much better reception with Sirius than I did with XM. I think I probably did a better job of placing the antenna for one thing, but I haven't had but a few drop outs at all!

Nothing against XM, but I personally enjoy Sirius alot better, at least so far!

If you want to put the reception issue to bed once and for all...get a Terk SIR6 home antenna from Amazon for $35. Works crazy good. I attached ours to our DirecTV mast and right away got 100% sat reception...all bars all the way up 100% of the time. Money well spent if you use your tuner in your home a lot. The home antenna that comes with the home docking stations never gave me close to the reception I get with the SIR6 even when they had a 100% view of the sky.

Just about everybody I talk to who is familiar with both services, prefers the music programming on Sirius.

XM has a few excellent channels, but there's little doubt Sirius has the better all-around lineup.

I know of a lot more people who have switched from XM to Sirius than vice versa, primarily because of the music, but also Sirius's considerably stronger sports lineup.

XM better watch out after Sirius's hardware partners release some portable receivers, and Stern and NASCAR come on board.

Sirius will be a force to be reckoned with in 06 and 07.

The naysayers like FrontMed will be scampering for their cracks and crevices.

Still, the Sirius vehicle reception stinks in canyons and overhung trees, motorcycles, etc......XM was great in this respect..........I wish Sirius would get this right.....
