Default Christian music playing on Movin EZ and StarLite

I heard this yesterday and figured it was a fluke, or maybe it was because it was Sunday but I heard it again this morning and have now heard the same song played on both Movin EZ and StarLite.

Its a song called "Homesick" by "MercyMe" a christian rock band. It is definately christian music and I'm appalled that its being played on mainstream stations when there are stations for this music on Sirius already.

Now, before people jump into me about anything relating to religion I'm christian, I just think its innapropriate to play christian religious music on mainstream stations for obvious reasons. I pay for Sirius because I'm tired of the censorship and conservative slant in broadcast radio and I won't stand for this on Sirius. I have lodged a complaint with Sirius and if I don't see some sort of change or this becomes more prevolent I will immediately switch to XM.

Um.. there are plenty of "christian" group/artists that have crossed over to the mainstream. Jars of Clay, Amy Grant and Michael W Smith are three that come immediately to mind. So another group has.. big deal.. Switch to XM dude if you are this uptight, but it just ain't any better over there either.

True, but those people have switched over to mainstream with mainstream music. This is not mainstream music.

I listened to a snippet on Amazon. It just sounds like another lame country ballad to me.

My advice to SWES03 would be to get over yourself!

You have to listen to the whole song. I'll try and find the lyrics. It just doesn't belong on a mainstream network.

Frankly I'm a little surprised at the reaction here. With all the moaning you guys do about the FCC censoring and promoting content I expected at least some concern.

Get over myself? Thanks for that. Guess I'll just go on down the road.

For those that don't want to click the link here's the chorus:

In Christ, there are no goodbye
And in Christ, there is no end
So I'll hold onto Jesus with all that I have
To see you again
To see you again
Hardly mainstream.

I love this song and if you don't when it comes on change the channel. The one cool thing I do love about Sirius is they don't get into this hardcore set of having music stuck in certain genres. With Sirius music knows no bounds. Oh for the most part it does stay on certain channels, but crossing over is okay with me.

I personally applaud Sirius for adding this music and allowing it to crossover as it does on FM stations across the country. Sirius shouldn't be boxing music or limiting it to certain channels when it clearly crosses over. Sorry that you don't like it, but change the channel like the rest of us do when there is stuff on we don't want to hear. I take it if it was a song of filth you'd be okay with it. Its just being Christain that has you all worked up. Well that is about you!

I would react the same way if it was a song of filth played on a station not typically playing that genre of music yes, but its a different issue and you know it. Why would you think I like listening to filthy music when I listen to Movin EZ and StarLite?!?

Playing religious music on non-religiously themed channels is different than playing a country song on a pop station. Its a question of making listeners feel uncomfortable. In this type of a situation its best to leave this music to its themed stations. I feel strongly enough about that to switch providers.

I do thank you for being the first person to respond respectfully to my post. I don't care if people agree with me but I do care if they treat me with respect. Thank you and I won't bother the rest of you guys anymore.

Talk about censorship. Now we have to keep our music segregated so we don’t offend the atheists? If you don’t like the song change the channel.

So you Christianity is some kind of fringe movement?

Does your head explode when George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord" is played?

What about songs that glorify violence and rape, do we get rid of those too? And those that make political statements?

I am sorry I don't see it as different at all. It is different to you because for whatever reason you have an issue with Christain Music. In this situation I think Sirius has a right to allow this music to cross-over as it does everywhere else. Why would you expect Sirius to handle this any differently than FM? Are you also angry at all the hundreds of FM stations that are also playing these cross-over hits too?

Well good luck, because just this morning on XM's The Blend I heard this same song and guess what? The Blend isn't a Christian Channel, you can run but you can't hide. I bet its not just the Blend that is playing these songs either. Because like Sirius XM does allow cross-over hits to cross-over on various channels. Sounds like you'll be better served isolating yourself with an IPOD and downloads or CD's.

This sounds to me more like an issue of political conservatism than religious music. I'm Canadian. I've learned from discussions with Americans that often what they consider "liberal" we would consider to be well within the "conservative" domain, so I suspect I would share you political views.

I wonder if the OP would be offended to hear some Bob Marley on either of the streams mentioned. While clearly Marley music would ordinarily be found on Reggae, most of his music, and almost all of his music that was popular outside of Jamaica, was very religious, Christian (Rastafarian) music. Yet I'm sure that conservative Christians in the US would be appalled to here Marley on any of the Christian music streams.

Wow once again we are shown how offensive Christianity is to liberals. I mean what is the big deal??? Why if you hear the word God or Jesus are you offended? Yet its funny you arent offended when you hear God-d***in a song. And man there are a whole lot of crossovers. MercyMe is just one of them. They have a maistream deal. But lets look at other "Christian" artists that have mainstream deals: Relient K, Switchfoot, P.O.D., Amy Grant, dc Talk, Jars of Clay, Project 86, Demon Hunter, etc.

These bands all released Christian cds when a mainstream label found them. Switchfoots "A Beautiful Letdown" was released 6 months in Christian Bookstores before a mainstream label signed them and released their music to secular radio.(I know cause I got it the week it came out) Its the same with the rest of the bands and the same with MercyME. Go to XM but I promise youll hear the same stuff on their "secular" stations because these songs have been released to mainstream radio. Dude if the music is good people want to hear it. Take a chill pill and realize how ridiculous it is for you to be offended by hearing the word "CHRIST". Oh.....Im sorry I said his name. Dont cry

I have no problem with them playing "christian" music on the lite stations, I just think it's pretty hypocritical that they won't play "gay" music. I don't mean music by gay artists (a lite station without Elton John?? ), I mean songs that have male/male or female/female references. I wrote in to request music by Sacha Sacket and was told "No, we cannot play that, try OutQ." OutQ only plays music on the weekends and overnight.

If you'd like to hear a sample of the song I requested, go here:

http://www.sachasacket.com/shadowedlisten.htm

The song is called "At a Time". It's not sexual and doesn't even mention sexuality in it at all.

So I guess the segregation and strict genre guidelines only apply to "gay lite rock"
