If they can have Christian music, they should also have Klezmer (Jewish folk).
Klezmer is great music and I'm definitely in favor of it being broadcast on Sirius. However, I don't think it should be used as an example of religious music. While its origen is eastern European Jewish culture and it's performed in Ashkanasi traditions, it's not particularly religious in content. It's currently enjoyed by Jews and non-Jews alike.

If it is popular, than it is a pretty good bet the community is already served. If Sirius adds a channel like Out Q, they've cornered the market. If that add a Christian station, they are competing with a million alternatives and maybe get 10% of the market. When people are happy with an FM outlet, why would they switch to Sirius? Again, most Christian stations are non-commerical and able to be more responsive to the local community (with annoucements, requests, etc.) than Sirius is.

I must admit that I freaked a bit when I saw that Sirius was adding yet one more Christian channel but then I remembered one of the main reasons that I choose Sirius over XM and that was OUTQ. As long as they keep OUTQ on the air, then I guess I really don't care. I just won't listen to them. And, I love New Age so I am totally pumped about that.

Six is way too many by my count. We're going to lose Remix, Wax, Slow Jamz, Swing Street, and Folktown to make room for channels like this. I'm sorry, but I have a huge problem with that....and I'm not the only one.

Believe me, I've listened to my fair share of Christian rock music (not by choice) and it was absolutely unbearable. I live in the bible belt and know plenty of devout Christians that cannot stand it either. Sure it has a message, but the music itself is horrible. I just don't understand the reasoning behind SIRIUS dumping perfectly good channels for this crap.
Heres some reasoning Sirius is smarter than you. Dude Christian Rock is one of the fastest growing genres out there. Project 86, P.O.D.,Relient K, Switchfoot, Thousand Foot Krutch, Demon Hunter, blindside. I mean come on if "this is crap" why have these bands sold millions of albums? If you dont like the message fine. But if you think theres no one out there who likes Christian Rock, you are an idiot. You hear every single one of the bands I mentioned on secular radio. Wow its amazing they put so much unbearable music on secular radio!

Now theres a place where they will be played in the same place along with other bands who havent had mainstream success yet. There is a HUGE Christian Rock fan base. This was a great move by Sirius. Dont be foolish. I mean dude XM has a Christian Rock station. Dont you think that Sirius did its homework to see if XM's station is listened to a lot? If it isnt why in the world would Sirius bring this channel? They wouldnt. But the truth is XM's the Torch is very popular and thats why Sirius is bringing Revolution.

Sorry but I don't think that out of the over 125 channels I find enough that I listen to... I really thought there would be more variety and there is more talk and television channels than anything and that has been the BIGGEST dissapointment... and now I'm losing one of the few music channels that I enjoy for this!

Give me more variety and more music and I wouldn't care about this
hi td,

as a christian, neither do i think nor would i say, that you are going to hell because of your beliefs. in fact, christ told us "judge not". he was not talking about not making judgments about people with regards to things here on earth, but rather about "whether they were good or bad, going to heaven or hell", etc. this is between god and the individual.

now, with your complaint about sirius' music content - more than likely they are trying to appeal the majority. why do they have a dozen current rock stations, and only 2 oldie rock stations (50s and 60s) ? i wouldn't give you two whoops and a holler for any current rock station. but i realize that my musical tastes are in the minority, when compared to the entire sirius population. i mean they don't even have 1 country station for the oldie oldies, that were the pioneers. the roadhouse is about as far back as they go. i think that is probably their biggest omission, in that we are talking about 30 years of country music.

but i have a similar complaint to yours regarding cable television. and it would also apply to sirius. and that is that each channel should have a price tag on it. then we could each pick and choose the channels that we want to listen to and support. the price of each channel would depend on the number of listeners who wanted it, and the cost to sirius to broadcast it. the revenue stream could be kept equal. we would then see which channels were truly desired by people's willingness to pay for them.

Gee thanks DUDE. You know what? I have a major problem with the "Christian" label...I think it's just bands who cant get there music played on other rock formats because it SUCKS. If they made good enough music it would get played everywhere, regardless of lyrics. Affirmative Action channels for Christian music are ridiculous.

Does that mean you are not for OutQ? Or does that only mean you aren't for a station that is FOR religion but you are FOR a station this FOR gays?

I hear Revolution will be on Channel 666 and will feature such artists as:

The Jesus and Mary Chain
Jesus Jones
Peter, Paul and Mary
(Saint) Paul Simon
Godsmack
Judas (Iscariot) Priest
Styx
Metal Church
Black Sabbath

Also, look for exclusive Sirius-produced specialty shows such as:

The Gospel According to (Elton) John - covers of classic Gregorian chants from the beloved singer-songwriter
Bringing the Mountain to Moses (Malone) - a daily wrap up of NBA news

All hosted by Pat St. John!

I can understand you not liking some kinds of music. I dont like all kinds. But man if this music sucks why is the Torch popular on XM. Why is it so popular that Sirius felt the need to add a Christian rock channel as well? Just because you dont like and you know Christians that dont like it, doesnt mean that everyone doesnt like it. There is a big following. Trust me, I know because I am a part of that following.

OMG I can't believe what I am reading in this thread.

I think you tell people "Christian Rock" and suddenly everyone thinks that it goning to be this super religious channel.

Have any of you listened to "The Torch" on XM? Yea it does go into religious music but they play a lot of stuff: POD, Evanescence, Switchfoot, Seventh Day Slumber, Plumb are all Christian based groups and there songs have a message but it's not like Jesus, Jesus, Jesus.

If they run things like The Torch I'll be pretty happy, I don't always want to listen to music that takls about hating myself and I hate my parents etc etc (Although I listen to that too)

I think Christian Rock is usually best described as "Inspirational" music not religious music.

As I said in a previous thread I am not a religious person AT ALL, but "The Torch" is my favorite channel on XM. There is nothing wrong with having a positive message in what you hear. And I think people should give it a chance before they bash it or think that it's some type of religious conspiracy.

I don't care about OutQ at all... I'm straight but I have no problem with gays and lesbians. The only reason I have issues with religion is because of the experiences I have had in the past with people who want to treat me like dirt b.c I don't believe.. when I don't care one way or another about that, I have many friends that are quite religious.

You are right. Christian Rock is usually a lot less preachy that what you can hear on Spirit. Its more about being positive. Its like what its like to be a Christian, it makes you see things in more of a positive light I guess. So you dont hear about hate and killing but songs about love and forgiveness.

personally, i never cared for christian rock. if i was in a spiritual mood, i wanted to listen to stuff from "praise", etc.

but during those moods, i actually liked the music - even if the words were not christian oriented. i think some of them are very pleasing.

you know - probably my fav christian song was actually written by a lesbian, named marsha stevens. she played in one of the first christian groups called "children of the day". the title of the song is "for those tears i died". they played it all the time at communion during the 70s at my catholic church guitar mass.

below is a version of it if you want to know the words - but it is the most awful singing version of it that i have ever heard.
