I agree with the original poster. It sounds like a lame idea and a waste of bandwidth. Most people can see what's playing on each channel while in category mode already. And who's going to sit through genres of music that they don't want to hear just to perhaps find something preferable?

And Codedude, 64Chill format is not appropriate for a new-age channel. Chill is down-tempo music while new-age is ambient (yes, I said "ambient") music. The Chill channel should instead be moved out of the Electronic/Dance category. Personally I feel it's more of an eclectic channel than a dance channel, and I appreciate having it.

But yeah, it doesn't make sense to dump the most-ingenious, most-appreciated dance/electronic channel known as Remix. Dump Boombox instead!

I'm in full agreement with the funk. Gotta have that funk.

I still cant see how Sirius can see the advantage of deleting Remix to add Sirius Shuffle. With Remix, Sirius had the dance community all to themselves. There was no competition with XM. Now theyve got the dance community angry and theyre adding Sirius Shuffle? It doesnt make much sense but I will give Sirius Shuffle a shot. It might be good though I doubt it.

I agree. Hard to imagine how Shuffle will bring in more subscribers when Sirius already has Spectrum and Disorder. I know some people maintain that Shuffle will be different. Even if this is true, it will hard to market a subtle difference to add subs.

On the other hand, you have deserted your Dance fans which was an edge over XM.

I too will check out the Shuffle but doubt that I will end up listening any more than I do to the variety channels already in place.

I agree that Sirius has made a mistake by deleting some of it's dance channels. It seems like a pretty big niche to me. I don't listen, but just analyzing Sirius stations vs. XM stations I thought Sirius had the distinctive edge over XM in the dance category. Now it looks like a tossup. I'm sure this shuffle thing will be a station that I like, but I don't see it luring in any new subscribers on it's own. I think Sirius could lose some subscribers over the loss of the dance channels.

I'm just sick of waiting for them to add a Turkish Rap station. Now THAT would bring 'em in droves!!!

I can't say that I'm excited about this stream in the least. It doesn't make sense to me that you alienate audiences by deleting Remix and Folktown, and merge Swing Street and Standard Time to make room for this. I can already say that I have zero interest in this and doubt I'll ever listen to it.
I just don't understand why Sirius feels that there is a need for a channel like this.

My thoughts exactly...this is not a channel you can use to increase subs but Remix was. It kept the dance community with Sirius. Granted the dance community isnt big but I still dont see the point in adding a channel that cannot be used to gain subs while deleting a channel that was gaining subs. But who knows...the Sirius people probably know something we dont.

If it is truly going to be a random sampling of music from all channels, I think it's awesome, and exactly what I've been looking for.

I mainly listen to the music channels at work. There are about 10 that I listen to. I try and tune in to a different one each day, because they are all too repetitive. And just because I like Hair Nation doesn't mean that's all I want to listen to all day.

I have no problems with a setlist like this:

Eminem
Def Leppard
Garth Brooks
Beatles
Phantom of the Opera
Bob Marley
Jim Croce
Blink 182
etc.

Well, the most dissapointing aspect of this channel is that it's taking up precious bandwidth while apparently only playing music that's already being played on other stations. The last thing the lineup needs is a channel that inherently redundant and repititous 100% of the time.

Couldn't the same thing more or less be accomplished by a software update that would shuffle through the music stations after each song?

It's going to play songs that are actually playing on another channel? How is it going to sync up? Songs don't all start and end at the same time. If Shuffle is going to cut songs short, then I won't listen to it. I assumed it was going to randomly select songs from the playlists of all stations, not echo songs already being played on another station.

I would like this.

I don't think it will be set up that it randomly picks a song already playing on another station. They could take songs from other playlists, but I'd say a programmer will do this (not automatcially). Could be wrong though.

The botton line is that we are going to have to wait and see what this channel actually does. I don't think they are going to cut songs short, we don't even know if there is going to be DJ's I don't think.

I am looking forward to this channel, but I withhold judgement until after I hear it for a week or two. Then I'll have specific comments based on the programming that I am hearing, not speculation on something I've not even heard yet.

I don't think it'll play songs simultaneously with other streams; my point was that the shuffle playlist apparently will be made up of songs already on other playlists. Therefore, it's 100% repetitous.
