Just about every station plays songs that are on playlists of other stations.

Yeah, isn't it great? I wish there was even more overlap. In fact, why not have just one playlist and shuffle it differently across every music stream.

Default Repackaging

If you visit any genre specific forums a common complaint is the heavy rotation, shallow playlists, and sharing of playlists from similar genres. Now we have a station which we KNOW will pull its content from already exisiting playlists. How can such a stream be such a buzz generator? How can anyone possibly be excited that instead of listening to a few stations and hearing the same rotation you can now listen to ONE station and hear a mixed rotation. This is marketing at its best. The reason for so many channels is to have a diverse set of genres with people in the know doing the programming. Its apparent that Sirius is only obsessed with limited playlists and maximixing the profits from them. If it werent for BBC R1, Sports, and News id cancel my subscription.

SIRIUS Disorder is a good channel and SIRIUS Shuffle will be a waste of bandwidth.

Apparently some guy called SIRIUS up about three or four months ago and requested a "Repetition Channel". Since SIRIUS considers itself an underdog, they naturally decided to go with the less popular requests such as "SIRIUS Disorder", "Radio Korea", "Revolution", "Christian Talk", "Martha Stewart Living Radio" and that woman from Phoenix who requested Richard Simmons get a show.

The highly requested channels such as an all Punk channel, a movie soundtracks channels, a Funk channel, etc. go completely unheard because far more than two people made a request for these channels, which obviously goes against the whole "underdog" mentality.

Now, this is pure speculation at this point but rumor has it that SIRIUS will be adding an all Polka Channel sometime during the first quarter of 2006...appropriately titled "Polka Nation".

Just because they were highly requested here doesn't mean that many people called and requested them. They wouldn't put a lower requested channel on before a more highly requested one. Believe it or not they DO want to make money.

Hahaha

Lets see. Can we get a channel that plays the highest spinners from each format, mix them up and call it the Shuffle? What a novel idea. As if the people listening to THEIR channels arent sick enough of the high spinners.

And if they REALLY mean all 65 music channels, then are we going to hear Standards mixed into The Pulse? Heart&Soul mixed into Prime Country. Whoopee.

I am especially looking forward to the Hard Attack, Kids Stuff and Shade 45 sequence.

i did not read thru all the comments, but i think that the success of the channel will depend on 2 main qualities of the sbs listeners. i am assuming that there is an equal distribution from all 65 channels

1) how diverse is their taste ?

2) how much do they like seeing their tastes mixed ?

for me, it would be a horrible channel, because i dont like the majority of channels. but i enjoy having my tastes mixed or not mixed.

in other words, i basically like oldie country and oldie rock. since my taste is not that diverse, i would fail Q1. however i would pass Q2, since i would almost always enjoy hearing either oldie country, oldie rock, or the combination of the two.

Somehow, I just don't think it will be an equal mix of all 65 music channels. This would just be a mess. That may be what they are saying, but I think we'll see more emphasis on certain channels and formats. It may be broader than a "Jack" type format, but I think once it gets established, it will be closer to that type of format than a mix of everything on Sirius. I really can't see them going from classical to heavy metal to classic country to fusion jazz, etc. If so, then this channel will truly be nothing but a waste that no one will care about. I truly hope that it evolves into a "Jack FM" type format. I really like that format.

I disagree, I think this will be a great channel for variety and a large playlist since it will be pulling from multiple years and genres, much like XM The Blend. Totally love that channel and I think I am will enjoy this one too. I say we should wait and hear it before we start saying it will suck or be a waste of bandwidth.

I's sure that it will have a lot of variety, that't not what i mean. What i mean is that i'm sure everytime i turn to that channel there will probably be songs that i don't like. But i could always be wrong.

I sure hope so!

If it could be like The Blend used to be until recently, that would be awsome. The Blend's playlist has narrowed considerably lately, and many of the older songs have been excised.

I'd be shocked if the station was truly a car crash of styles the way some people on this thread have surmised.
