Default Repetition, repetition, repetition....

I just discoved "Song Seek" and givemesatteliteradio.com, and wow was I disgusted!! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Sirius and the variety it provides.

BUT, how is it possible to play any song THAT MANY TIMES!!!!!
Go ahead and look up a song that you feel is played a little too often. You'll be shocked to see exactly how often it is in rotation.

I know that popular songs get played more often, but come on, there is like a 20 to 1 difference with the less popular songs.

I really wish I hadn't taken the blue pill, because the rabit hole is WAY DEEP!! Ignorance is bliss.

I feel your (all of our) pain. The guys over at Disorder don't understand that most of these artists have more than one good song. All the stations are guilty of it.

If I hear David Bowie: "The Man Who Sold the World" one more time I am going to puke.

Actually, the repetition is not nearly as bad as it was a while back. Thank goodness!

Thats what they feel the masses are....thus you get programming this way. What if they are right? I almost think that we are the minority, and the masses dont care for what we like or what we would change. Sad, but quite possibly true. :\

If Sirius was loosing a substantial amount of subs to the repetition they'd change it to quick to talk about it. So, I think Az's theory is probably correct.

I agree, I think AZ is probably right on. Repitition is the very reason I keep XM for the most part. When I get tired enough of it, then I listen to XM for a few days.

I've always wanted SIRIUS to have bigger playlist and to keep the playlist they have fresh by adding and removing songs on a daily bases rather than just suffling the same ole songs over and over. SIRIUS could remain true to the hits, but offer huge playlist. They just refuse to do this.

AZ Joe's question raises an interesting point. Pretty difficult to answer with little or no data on why subs choose XM or Sirius; Why someone moves from one service to the other etc. The only obvious data we have is the number of subscribers each service currently has.

By most estimates, Sirius has about 3 million subs vs. 6 million for XM. The question is why the disparity? Certainly XM started a bit earlier but that alone probably does not account for many subs at this point. Equipment? Probably some subs viewed XM with better equipment but how many average consumers made their choice on devices? I would propose the #1 issue for who chooses one over the other is programming. Certainly MLB has helped XM but, Sirius certainly benefited from signing on the NFL. Nevertheless, from what research I've seen, the majority of subs for both services listen to music.

What differences are there between XM's and Sirius's music channels? One can argue about this until they are blue in the face but they really are more similar than different when it comes to musically variety. That leaves us with the programming. Here the difference comes down Sirius mirroring a FM channel with a tight play list and XM programming to offer a much wider array of tunes. (I realize this statement is a sweeping generality but I doubt many would disagree that Sirius has a smaller play list on most channels.)

So, what can we say? Obviously nothing definitively. But, I think one could argue that those who vote with their money may be choosing XM over Sirius to some degree because of the differences in music programming. Repetition may be more offensive to some than playing obscure tunes. If only 25% made their choice based on music content, that could explain a big chunk of the 3 million sub disparity.

the diff between Sirius and XM right now is the lack of Alt Country, Acoustic, and Folk on Sirius. It's completly absent.
