Default Why no Reggaeton Channel? Sucks!

I only recently got Sirius and I love it, except for one complaint - all these channels - 90% i have no interest in, but NO reggaeton channel. I guess having lived my entire life in NYC/Miami made me think Reggaeton is extremely popular everywhere, but I suppose its only popular in these 2 cities (which both have 2 to 3 separate FM reggaeton stations of the 10 or so main FM stations).

The only closest things are the crappy (yes its my opinion based on my likes) Mexicano and Latino channels - which are completely different from reggaeton.

On the siirus site it says Rumba channel 92 is part reggaeton but its mixed in with too much salsa and other stuff that I dont personally like.

Does anyone know why theres no Reggaeton, or if theres something similar and I somehow missed it, or maybe a special show/hour on one of the Latin channels that is dedicated to that music only.

Im not switching cuz I love Howard but does XM have a reggaeton channel?

Nope. XM has Algeria which was hijacked by reggaeton music from it's latin pop hits format so now it's sort of like rumbon 90% reggaeton with a very tiny amount of latin pop etc. It's similar to rumbon. Check it out with the xm 3 day free trial. BTW, Reggaeton is gaining ALOT in popularity from what i Have seen. NYC has it's very own 100% (la calle) reggaeton channel and it's very good. It's too bad a station like that doesn't exist on sirius or xm for it's fans.

I don't know if I would say reggaeton is popular. I know when I lived in Orlando, it was huge. Everyone one was bumping it. But other parts of the country, it isn't doing so well. It would be nice to get a hold of someone at XM, and see how their station is doing.

I just assumed that it was unpopular elsewhere or Sirius would have a dedicated channel or 2 for it, instead of... nothing. Considering I am just a stupid $30k/year government employee and not a 6 figure Sirius executive, I assume they know more about radio than me and thus reggaeton must not be popular.

Yes, Sirius should have a reggae-only channel. No question. I want to hear Eek-a-mouse on sirius!

Sirius does have a reggae channel, 32, where Eek-A-Mouse is heard quite frequently. This thread is about reggaeton.

I am sure they will be adding a reggaeton channel by deleting another R&B channel (leaving us with one).

Channel 32 is strictly Raggae. It is in the rock category, not the international category. I also think that the Jimmy Buffett channel does a raggae hour or a program on raggae but I don't know when it is on.

The closest you will get to Reggaeton is Rumbon channel 92.Every few records they will drop some Reggaeton.

XM has a Reggaeton-only channel (not Reggae, there's a big difference) named ALEGRÍA and I've noticed it has gotten a lot better over the last month. In the beginning it was too repetitive but now they've seem to have expanded their playlists a bit and has become a little bit edgier crossing beyond-Reggeaton territory and going more in the general Latin Urban category. It's not pefect but it's getting there, or at least I hope so. Plus lots of new tracks not heard anywhere on Sirius. I just with XM's Latin channels had more DJ's to spice things up a bit.

I stand corrected. I have only suspended my xm account last monday and I see their website under latin programming has changed! Algeria is reggaeton ONLY and like you said it has urban programming.

Yes I knew that Alegria was once Latin CHR until last August when they switch formats to Reggaeton and Latin Urban music. But, like I said, they do cross into other sub-genres that is NOT Reggaeton however Alegria won't play any Latin CHR (Latin Pop) that isn't in the realms of the Urban genre. Basically Alegira is the Latin version of The Eye (Rhytmic Top 40) with. You will not hear any Spanish AC or Rock En Espanol on Alegria.

They will play some R&B, by Latin artists, or Reggaeton remixes like Shakira's La Tortura.

Have you tried channel 92? It's a great mix of tropical and reggaetón! I´m constantly frustrated at Sirius for delaying the deubut of the World Music channel in favor of the Rolling Stones snoozefest. There is so much great world music out there that is being ignored by Sirius - it´s a real shame.
