Default Do DJ's Work Long Hours Or Are They Pre-recorded?

I noticed that some DJ's are on the radio for many hours a day. For example, Dave Mac is on the Spectrum from 1PM until 7PM, and then on Disorder from 7PM until 1 AM. And this is 7 days a week.

I'm wondering if the DJ's are always live or if they pre-record some of their chatter. I find this hard to believe as I know I've heard them mention the time, but I also find it hard to believe that some of the DJ's work 84 hour work weeks.

Does anyone know if any of the DJ chatter is pre-recorde?

Most of it is pre-recorded.

Talking It's great if you like the DJ....

Pat St. John for example. I can't get away from him. He's on the Blues channel and Vault. He's probably on other channels that I don't know about. I guess he's a loved and respected DJ legend, but I can't tolerate him. He thinks he's the star attraction and the music is only a soundtrack to suport his stories about all of the rock and blues legends he is friends with.

I'm sure most of the people he talks about have no idea who he is.

I'm pretty sure the DJ's on Hard Attack and Hair Nation are live, and I think the DJ's on Outlaw Country are usually live during the week anyway.

I'm pretty sure the DJ's on the Spectrum and Disorder are live too. That's why I asked the question. It really does seem like they are live as they will occassionally give the time or make a comment that would indicate the narrative is live. On the other hand, it's hard to believe that some of these DJ's would put in these kind of hours, 7 days a week no less so I have to believe that SOME of it would probably be taped.

But it sure doesn't appear that way. At least not on the stations I'm listeing to.

I think many of the channels are live on weekdays and otherwise on the weekends. Most of the channels are jockless on the overnights.

I don't think anything is taped, instead it's voice tracked. That way a DJ can do a show in one half to one third of the time it actually takes to air, by only doing his or her narration, and the computer inserts the music later when the show airs.

Last Thursday, I heard Keith Roth on both Octane and Buzzsaw in the morning. I highly doubt he was doing two shows on different channels at the same time.
