Default Disappointing Christmas Music

Channel 2 (starlite) half the time im turning the channel off because any kind of modern christmas music is just garbage.

Channel 86 (sirius pops) seems to play the same songs every few hours.

Channel 62 (roadhouse) i have no use for country music. lol

Maybe im not in the christmas mood yet or something but the music sirius is giving us for christmas is weak(verrrrry weak) should be a channel for 40's thru 60's christmas music (when it was actually classy) and another channel for the modern garbage.

Anyone else feel like i do or am i in the minority?

Put in 1,000 requests, hopefully it'll come as a shocker to the robot running StarLite.

I would definitley love a Classic Christmas station. I also feel the modern artists don't do the season justice. Guess I'm just an old traditionalist. For Christmas give me Johnny Mathis, Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett any day!

I actually have to say the Christmas music on (62) Roadhouse has been pretty good. I listened in the car on a trip for the better part of eight hours on Saturday and it was very non-repetitious and seemed to span from classic country artists like Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson to more modern artists like Lonestar and Martina McBride. As a matter of fact . . . it wouldn't surprise me if the playlist is deeper for their Christmas country music on (62) than it is for their everyday Roadhouse playlist.

The robot known as Kid Kelly (this is just a guess btw).

Starlite aka Sirius Holiday repeats wayyyyyyyyyy to much but I'm not surprised, it repeated wayyyyyyyyyyy to much last year and wayyyyyyyyyyyy to much 2 years ago.

There's so many Christmas hits that just aren't in the playlist.

In New Orleans, we've got an FM station playing all day Christmas music with basically the same exact format as Starlite, a mixture of old and new. I switch back and forth to see who has got the song I prefer. If Sirius offered a channel playing just the more traditional Christmas songs, and not playing the newer versions, I'd be able to avoid FM altogether.

Well now, it looks somebody is changing their tune afterall. If memory serves correctly, I believe it was you who said [in the other thread] that it was just another chance for me to bitch. It looks like you and several others are finally agreeing with me.

Here's what *I* would have done:

- First and foremost we need a channel in the vein of XM's Special X-Mas that would play the "dysfunctional" (as XM states) stuff and air more adult-oriented fare such as: Parodies, soundbites from cheesy Christmas flicks, novelty tunes, etc. All the oddball stuff would go here. One of the single-artist channels would air this.

- Traditional Religious Christmas music. All the religious-oriented music such as "Silent Night", "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear", etc. would air here. It would naturally take over one of the Christian music channels. Although, I'd probably sneak in a few Hanukkah tunes as well.

- A version of XM's Holiday Traditions. This would air the traditional songs that aren't necessarily religious in nature. The Bing Crosby's and Nat "King" Cole's go here.

- A modern/contemporary channel. Pretty self-explanatory. Yet another that XM did right.

- A Christmas Rock Channel. This could EASILY fill-up an entire channel. It would obviously take-over one of the rock channels ...which we can easily spare.

- An old-school rap/R&B Christmas channel. I don't like lumping them into category, but you can't have 50 bloody channels.

Aside from the repetition, these two channels were actually done halfway right by SIRIUS:

Classical Christmas - Very welcome addition. Even though I initially said that it shouldn't take over SIRIUS Pop, it's actually the most logical place to put it, IMHO. Better that Symphony Hall because I read to that one.

Christmas Country - Not something I'd personally listen too, but definitely a genre that airs plenty of Christmas tunes.

Completely dump:

The constant repetition. (Obviously)

The cheesy Kasey Kasem "dedications" that just plain annoy. This is something I would expect on FM radio...not satellite. Nothing is more annoying than having to endure "audio postcards" from complete strangers.

Boys bands Holiday covers. 'Nough said.

Basically, I'd just do what XM is doing...only better. Probably just should of said that in the first place.

EDIT to add: Motown!

Chad, you were bitching because they didn't have a zillion different Christmas channels, 3 channels is enough. I do agree with you that they repeat too much, if they had 10 Christmas channels they'd all repeat too much. That's just how Sirius works.
