Default Not a NASCAR fan, Watch this weekends Race

I know that NASCAR is a little far off from coming to Sirius, but you might as well get ready.

A lot of you might think this is just a sport for people from the south. Hillbillys or Rednecks. I'm not from the south, although I live in Missouri now. I'm not a Hillbilly or Redneck. I'm a Southern California Hispanic. Who just happend to move to SW Mo. And back in 1998 I got hooked on NASCAR. I've always liked to watch races, but that year, I really started following it.

Talladega Superspeedway is the biggest track the Nextel Cup drivers go to. They go there twice a year, and this weekends race is the second of the year.

The track is a 2.66 mile tri-oval. It has 33 deg of banking in the corners 18 deg on the front stretch. All the cars have to use a restrictor plate on the engine keep that car from going 220+ MPH. It takes almost a minute for each car to get around the track during qualifing.

They run around the track three and four cars wide. 13-16 rows deep. One little mistake by a drive can take out half the field. The lead changes 30+ times during the course of a race, and can change 3 or 4 times just in one lap.

Chevrolet has dominated most of the races here, winning all of the races here since 1998.

If you don't know anything about NASCAR, or just watch a few races a year, this Sunday's race is the one to watch, at least until the Daytona 500 next year.

The race will be on NBC this Sunday. I will be out on the road this weekend. I'll be home next weekend so I can go to the race at the Kansas Speedway. I'll have to listen to the race on my XM. I can't wait for NASCAR to get to Sirius.

I can't guarantee anything, but you just might like what you see.

I'll do one better than just watching it, I'm going to that race. We go up there and camp for the weekend in the free parks near the track. I've been to the last four races at Talladega and love it.

Nascar is a growing sport. Every race has 100,000 plus fans in attendance. Sirius is pretty smart!!

I went to that race around 5 years ago when Earnhardt (#3) went from 17th to 1st in 5 laps and won the race. It was the last time he won and the only time I got to see him win in person. 188 laps of pure excitement.

Every lap at Talladega is like watching the last 10 laps at most other races, the last 2 minutes of a basketball game, or the two minute drill in a Super Bowl.

Yep.. I LOVE Talladega.. I won't miss this weekend

One of the things I really like about the track is the STEEP banking in the corners.. It's impressive watching the field come around the bank..

I'm going to try and go to next years spring race. This is my first Cup race at Kansas City this year. The last two years before that, I got to go to the California Speedway race.

I would love to go see the Motor Sports Hall of Fame there.

Have fun. I've always heard it's a blast.

NASCAR was a HUGE pickup for Sirius. It will bring a lot more subscribers to Sirius than the NHL will to XM.

A great trade, IMO.

Default Elliott Sadler Wins the Pole

Elliott Sadler won the pole for the UAW-Ford 500 with a qualifing Speed of 189.260 (50.597 sec).

The Top Ten qualifiers for this Sunday's race are...

1. Elliott Sadler
2. Dale Jarrett
3. Ryan Newman
4. Tony Stewart
5. Joe Nemechek
6. Bobby Labonte
7. Scott Riggs
8. Greg Biffle
9. Jimmie Johnson
10. Carl Edwards

Now that Baseball is nearing the post season, and the NFL is only in there fourth week, it's getting harder to keep up with everything that's going on.

I'm happy that I have Sirius this year. Last year, after the NASCAR season was over, I didn't have much to listen to on Sundays.

XM gets the NHL October 5th and Sirius doesn't get NASCAR until January 2007 though.

The event at Talladega isn't a race! Its a demolition derby waiting to happen. Sure, its tense, but, its not a race. Bulldoze the banking in the turns, take off the restrictor plates, then, you might get a race.

One idea is to remove some to the extra steel bars in the bumpers that protect the cars from damage due to bump drafting. This way, if you know that part of your car isn't strong there, you won't be bumping into people every lap to get a gain in speed.

Since the death of Dale Earnhardt, they have managed to run entire races at Daytona and Taladega without having a caution. It is possible for them to do it again, but some of the bone head drivers mess things up.

You're right about that. If they new that they would sustain big time aero damage if they bump drafted, then a lot of the proplem would be solved. It would be nice to see

BTW, you didn't say how your weekend went at the race. I hope it was great.
