Default NASCAR-Help me pick a new driver to support

I've been a fan of Rusty Wallace for years. I know my obvious choice is to support Steve Wallace. Still, I need someone else to support next year when I can listen to NASCAR on Sirius. I'm thinking about Mark Martin

Mark Martin is only going to race a partial season next year. He's been one of my favorite drivers, even if he does leave Ford for Chevy.

If I were you, I'd pick a new, up and coming driver, like Denny Hamlin. This guy can race. He's the first real rookie* to make the Chase for the Championship. He won the Bud Shoot Out having never raced a Nextel Cup car at Daytona.

Good luck to who ever you pick. You can't go wrong by being a fan...

*Carl Edwards ran 13 races the year prior, but was not able to contend for ROTY last year.

Well if SIRIUS still had a driver, or car for that matter, you could go with them. Speaking of which, since SIRIUS has NASCAR starting in 2007, they ought to be working on getting a driver and car sponsorship going again soon. I don't think they have had one since Jimmy Spenser in 2003? Not sure.

Btw, I'm not a big NASCAR fan but back in 2003 after I started buying my first shares of SIRI, I found this 1/24 scale diecast of Jimmy Spenser's #7 and got it.

No need to search any further, Harvick should be on the top of your list.

I'm a big fan of DEI Motorsports and Dale Earnhardt Jr. in general... A name you should be watching out for who drives for DEI is Martin Truex Jr... I know 'semipenguin' said Denny Hamlin, and he's a great driver... But Truex has had a bit of bad luck this year and looks to be a more threatening force on the track in 2007.

What are you waiting for, Rusty's been gone a whole year aready. Rusty was my guy for many years, got tons of his junk. Had to pick a new driver and everyone wants to pick a winner. When I picked my new driver I didn't know he would be in the thick of the chase, that was a nice suprise. Denny Hamlin is a nice kid and looks to have alot of talent, no big ego yet and had to work to get where he is. So there is my 2 cents

How about Juan Montoya?.......lol. Personally, I'm a Carl Edwards fan. I was a Bill Elliott fan for a long time and I kinda took a year to find a driver I really liked. I settled on Carl because I had a nice conversation a few years ago when he was driving the Craftsman Truck Series. He races clean, but he won't take anyone's shit! You can ask Stewart and Earnhardt about that.......

The Earnhardt Nation always welcomes someone new to the Sea of Red! How about Dale Jr.? If that is too mainstream, I've always supported Kerry Earnhardt. He drives in the Craftsman Truck Series. His son Jeffrey is an up and comer that should hit at least the Busch Series in the next couple of years. Jeffrey seems to have "it," much like his uncle, grandfather, and great grandfather.

I was in the same boat with losing Rusty. I think you take a few drivers that you like, follow them, and see what happens. I really started to follow Martin Truex Jr, Carl Edwards, Kevin Harvick, and Tony Stewart. I'm probably closer to following the young guys because I do not want to be a bandwagon jumper.

Default Picking A driver takes something inside you.

I dont think you can just pick a new driver. It comes from the passion and whatever excites you about the sport.

I remember being a true Dale senior fan for years and then in 1999, came a upstart brash harsh outspoken driver that for me brought in some spice to the sport.

Although Dale was still #1, I quickly starting changing my likings to the #20 Tony Stewart. I remember going to races and being one of the few wearing a #20 cap. Dale Junior is great but much of that is him riding his Dads coattails and expectations that he will be as good.

Tony is outspoken and that brings excitement and conversation.

Could you imagine 43 drivers just like Matt Kenseth ? Walking talking corporate robots !!!! Maybe that what you like ? It will come to you.
