Yeah the same folks that say NFL on the radio doesn't work will say the same about NASCAR. If only we had a television stuck in our asses 24 hours a day with great reception and/or had no life, I guess that argument would hold water.

I'm not a fan or a basher of nascar, and I understand why Sirius would want the contract since racing has a huge following, but I find it hard to believe that you are comparing listening to a football game to listening to a race. I mean how exciting is it to hear about left turns ?

Well Fregz, you don't have to listen to them now do you? Do you think SIRIUS will force you too? They are there for folks like myself that do enjoying hearing them when we aren't sitting in front of a television. These announcers make them very exciting, you might try it before you knock it. It isn't anything like you describe it.

Don't get me wrong I have nothing against races being on the radio. I'm not judging people that like them or anything, but when you compare the excitement of a race to the excitement of a football game I think you are going a tad too far. IMO there is much more action in a football game, where races, to me, are a bunch of guys driving in circles. I never said they were going to force me to do anything and I'm not saying Sirius shouldn't have the races. If people enjoy nascar on radio all the best to them, but I will never agree that listening to a race is on the same level as listening to a football game.

I hope Nascar brings tons of people to Sirius, and I hope Sirius gets tons of positive exposure to the huge fan base racing has.

I understand what you are saying, but what I am trying to stress to you is that it really isn't like them just talking about them going around in circles. They honestly do make it exciting. Now would it be as exciting as football, probably not to you because clearly you like football better. In fact I am almost certain you've never heard them broadcast NASCAR to make a real judgement call. I personally love both football and races.

Anyway... hopefully I've explained it better for you. I too hope this is successful for SIRIUS.

I am actually glad you brought this up, because I am pretty sure if you thought this about NASCAR that many others do too.

The nice part about listening is that many times, there aren't obvious breaks. So TV commercials don't always coincide with radio breaks.

You obviously need to watch a few races (yes, WATCH) and then listen to the radio broadcast. Once you watch and understand the strategy, then you should listen. There is SO much more to racing than left turns.

I'm a huge football fan(bears fan) and a huge nascar fan(harvick fan), I have to agree that the radio personalities make the races very enjoyable/exciting to listen to, there is a commentator who takes over in every turn, and each carries the intesity over from one another.

Fergz, you say not as exciting as football, well for the most part there is action for roughly 4 hours straight in nascar, only stopping for some commercials and the occasional caution, but I wouldn't say the it is less exciting than football. Sure football can be exciting, when they are playing. I don't find it all too exciting in between plays while they are in the huddle, during time outs or when they are reviewing a challenge, there is alot more down time during a football game. Like gridiron said, when february gets here, watch the daytona 500 WITH AN OPEN MIND, and maybe switch on the ole sirius receiver every now and then during the race and you'll see how good of a job they do at broadcasting it, plus the fact that daytona always has action packed racing. oh, and it is wayyyyy more than just going around in circles, alot of strategy and car handling issues involved. These guys aren't just in these machines for a sunday cruise.

I see what your are saying. But look at it this way, too. One could describe football as people just running around on a rectange field playing catch. Or baseball, as guys with sticks tring to hit small white balls etc, etc, etc. We know there's more too it than that. Same thing goes for NASCAR and racing in general.

I think you guys are misunderstanding me. I don't have any interest in nascar, and I don't really see myself ever being a fan, which really isn't the point. The question is will it change your listening habits and my answer is no.

I think it was a great deal for Sirius to get this contract. I am aware of how huge the following is, but it's just not for me, and that shouldn't bother anyone. I'm not against it, I'm just not into it and don't have any desire to try it either, but if you want to do it have fun and bring lots of your friends along for the ride.

Okay, so you have no interest and honestly have never really listened to a sat radio broadcast of NASCAR, but yet you still made a generalization that it was just a bunch of cars making left turns.

Will it change my listening habits of course it will, I'll be listening when I can't watch because this is a sport I enjoy. Did Martha Stewart change any ones listening habits? I guess if you like Martha the answer would be yes and if you don't then no. Did Stern change your listening habits? To be honest, he really didn't change mine, though I do on occasion listen.

So the point is because I personally have no interest in something is irrelevant and making a generalization that clearly indicates I don't understand the sport or the way it is broadcast is what folks are challenging you on, because clearly from your comments, you don't get it. It truly is a very exciting sport and the broadcasters do a GREAT job. In reality football has a lot more down time between plays than NASCAR does, unless of course their is a crash. But that is part of the excitment too.
