Question Will the NASCAR Channel change your listening habits?

How much do you think The NASCAR Channel is going to change what you listen to right now?

I know that when I first got XM, I used to listen to the NASCAR channel all the time. So much so I got sick of listening to old races and NASCAR Hero's.

Now with NASCAR coming to Sirius, How many of you who never had XM will start listening to the channel? What shows do you think you'll have to give up to listen to the channel?

I heard that The Jay Thomas Show is moving to 3pm-6pm now. This is going to make it harder on me to listen since it's now going to be on at the same time as Sirius Speedway.

My 11am-2pm is already taken with The Frank DeCaro Show. I'm not going to give up that show, so what ever comes on 128 at that time will be missed.

My 6pm+ time is taken up by Madison and Alt Nation. I have to listen to her greeting, but after that, I can switch back over.

I'm interested in reading what others will do once 128 kicks into high gear...

Once 128 kicks into high gear, I'll most likey spend quite a bit of time on the channel. I don't think I can let a day go by where Moody and his crew cause me to laugh so much that I almost wreck the car while listening. Also being I mainly listen to music at night, usually after 10 or so..everything should be in reruns where if I miss something during the day I can catch up with it before I go to bed.

When I first got XM for Christmas 2003, I had to make a decision between NASCAR on XM or the newly-announced NFL on Sirius. Reasoning that I'd be watching all the football games, NASCAR was appealing to me for the qualifying on Fridays and all the support shows terrestrial doesn't carry in my area. I stuck with XM. I've since added Sirius, and both services are for the sports content, but I guess I'll be listening to the new channel. Every time you think one service is getting the upper hand (Sirius having NFL, Notre Dame, Florida, WVU, and getting NASCAR), the other does something to one-up (XM getting the BCS exclusively).

I've never heard a full time NASCAR channel before, so I'm not sure how I'll be listening. I'm not that big into NASCAR talk shows. I watch 'Inside NASCAR" on the Speed Channel sometimes.

I'm wondering what will be on the radio display during races.... It would be nice if they could do something like scroll the numbers of the top 10...

I'll probably only tune in during races, mainly because i like their idea of streaming the race with the driver's in-car comments over it. They said there will be several channels so you can choose your favorite driver. I get enough NASCAR stuff on Bubba The Love Sponge...

I will be listening to the races when I cannot watch them on tv. Those guys on the race broadcast know how to keep you on the edge of your seat!

I'll probably listen to the nascar channel 95% of the time once the football season is over. then once football season starts up again, I'll probably have to split it up 50/50. I love both nascar and football, so its very tough to decide.

David Poole lands gig on satellite radio

Press Release

NEW YORK - Sirius Satellite Radio, the radio partner of NASCAR starting in 2007, announced today that NASCAR beat reporter and columnist David Poole and veteran broadcaster Marty Snider will host a daily talk show, Sirius NASCAR Radio's The Morning Drive, exclusively on Sirius.

Starting Jan. 1, The Morning Drive will air every weekday morning from 7:00-11:00 AM ET exclusively on Sirius NASCAR Radio / channel 128, the new 24/7 year-round radio channel dedicated to NASCAR. Snider and Poole will delve into NASCAR's latest news and rumors, interview prominent guests, and take calls from listeners.

"We're thrilled to have Marty and David, two of the most experienced and knowledgeable figures in NASCAR, kick off our daily programming lineup on Sirius NASCAR Radio," said Steve Cohen, Sirius' Vice President of Sports Programming. "With Sirius, listeners across the country will have exclusive access to the insights and opinions of NASCAR experts like these and they'll be able to call in to the show to discuss the topics that are relevant to the fans. Programming like this will make Sirius NASCAR Radio a must-have for NASCAR fans."

David Poole is one of the most widely-read and well-respected journalists in the sport. He has covered NASCAR for the Charlotte Observer for 10 seasons and is a regular contributor to ThatsRacin.com .

He is a two-time winner of the George Cunningham Award, given each year to the top writer in the National Motorsports Press Association, and also has won several Associated Press Sports Editors awards for his NASCAR coverage. Poole, a graduate of the University of North Carolina, has also worked at newspapers in Norfolk, VA; Gastonia, NC; and West Palm Beach, FL. Prior to joining Sirius he was a regular co-host on PrimeTime with the Packman, a popular afternoon sports talk show in Charlotte. Poole is the author of several books on NASCAR, including Race with Destiny: The Race That Changed NASCAR Forever and Tim Richmond: The Fast Life and Remarkable Times of NASCAR's Top Gun.

"I am very excited about being part of Sirius NASCAR Radio because it's going to be the place real fans go to talk about the sport they follow with so much passion," said Poole. "I believe Marty and I can help answer questions fans have about the sport and we're going to share our opinions about what goes on each week, but the show will only be as good as we think it's going to be if the fans share their opinions with us too."

Snider has been broadcasting NASCAR since his days as an undergrad at UNC-Charlotte. In 1998 he started at Turner Sports as a pit reporter for their NASCAR on TNT broadcasts and a year later joined NBC's NASCAR broadcast team. From 1995-2000 he worked as a pit reporter for the Motor Racing Network's (MRN) NASCAR broadcasts. He is also a regular contributor to NASCAR.COM and NBCSports.com as a NASCAR Insider. Snider was CNNSI's NASCAR reporter from 1998-2002, and from 1994-1997 he worked as a reporter and producer for ESPN's "NASCAR Today."

"On The Morning Drive, we'll get to share our inside information with the listeners every day, bringing them closer to the sport and the drivers," said Snider. "Sirius is clearly dedicated to being the premier radio destination for NASCAR fans seven days a week. I'm thrilled to be given this opportunity and can't wait to get it started on January 1."

Launching January 1 on Sirius' channel 128, Sirius NASCAR Radio will provide the most comprehensive, in-depth radio coverage of NASCAR with 24-hour coverage of the sport all year long. Sirius NASCAR Radio will be home to every live NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series, NASCAR Busch Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race, plus exclusive original programming hosted by NASCAR insiders like two-time NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Champion Tony Stewart. With Sirius NASCAR Radio, listeners will have access to up-to-the-minute news, expert analysis and exclusive interviews with drivers, team owners, crew members and other NASCAR insiders.

In addition to the live race broadcast, Sirius will take fans into the cars and pits by devoting up to 10 additional "Team Talk" channels that will carry driver-to-crew communications during NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series races. Sirius will combine the race broadcast with the driver-to-crew chatter on these channels, allowing fans to follow the overall race call and the in-car audio of a driver on a single channel throughout the race.

All NASCAR content is provided to Sirius customers at no additional cost over Sirius' monthly subscription fee. For more information visit www.sirius.com.

Hahaha. Edge of your seat.

"billy bob, still in the lead after driving 223 laps but Mark "the Mullet" is closing in fast"

I'm not trying to denegrate nascar, I just can't imagine a car race on the radio being anywher near interesting. Just like hocky or baseball on the radio (and on tv).

Exclamation

You're entitled to your opinion, Vargas, but I think that the people on the radio (MRN and PRN) do a fairly good job explaining what's going on during the race...

But you haven't answered the question. Will the up coming programming on The NASCAR Channel change what you listen to on Sirius right now?...
