I keep hoping Sirius will start up another left channel. Maybe if the merger goes through we can get Air America back. Shows like Thompson's should be reserved for Sirius Stars. If they do start putting on more exclusive hosts, they should at least get someone like Richard Bey or Mike Feder a regular slot.

But I also recognize that some people might argue that iPods are a superior substitute because you can get better electonica, or Stephanie Miller on them. The reality of the situation is this; while you and I agree satellite radio is better, easier, more convienient than iPods, most of the country disagrees with us. XM and Sirius have about 14 million subscribers, while Apple has sold over 100 million units (plus all the other non-iPod mp3 player). iTunes sold over a billion songs in 2006, plus people ripped CD's they own. If people spent 10-20 times as much on recorded television content as they do on their cable bills, you can bet the cable/sat broadcasters would see it as competition!

Hopefully, this post is funnier than Mr. Bennett.
Essentially you are arguing that the profitability of one delivery medium of content (static, not streaming) is a worthwhile reason for the ONLY two satellite content delivery companies to join together. I disagree. The argument of "competition" is subjective and limits have to be set. Arguably TV competes with radio competes with books due to the time constraints consumers have. However, that's not sufficient to let a monopoly for in any one given industry. You think it is. I don't. Either way, it's massively off-topic and I apologize to the other readers.

Back to the original topic of Alex Bennett being a tool and making the Left talk channel of Sirius more boring and Sirius make decisions that are pissing off many customers. Instead of the "Sirius Backseat TV" crap they are pushing, why not use that extra bandwidth for MORE CHANNELS so we can all get the content we want? Is the backseat TV thing selling at all? I really got to know.

I also would love to confirm for certain whether or not Mr. Bennett had a hand in the decision to drop Stephanie Miller or if he's just really happy the decision made independent of him.

I heard that today on Lynn....

We were out shopping and had a long drive so we took the sirius and put on the new guy. Lets see, he had on someone who was talking about the Florida elections and how they were stolen. yawn. So we shut off the merry yawn fest and put it back on on the way home, while he was droning on in that "I love my late night voice" monotone about iowa and the brown/black debate.....and trying to interview his engineer who wasn't having any of it and someone was mumbling about unemployment among "black americans" and all I could think of, is that "black americans" who are unemployed should join together with unemployed "white americans" and "latino americans" and "chinese americans", etc etc and work this issue together as screwed over americans.

one of the most wonderful things about stephy and the mooks is their ability to find humor and insanity in all of it, black, white, red, yellow. it's all crazy and even fun and I feel like we're in it together. and while I know we're in dire straits, I also know that so long as we can find a place where we can listen and learn and laugh, there's hope.

one hour doesn't cut it. I'd settle for the first two, but I'm sorry, as sad assed and in need of a job as this guy sounds, he's got to go. or at least get a middle of the night slot where he belongs amongst the guilt riddled, the insomniacs and the angry night people who like to talk and yell and drink. guys like this have a place, but it's not at the dinner table or evening commute.

Default Alex Bennett in Denial!

As I mentioned earlier, I've been posting messages about this situation on the AlexBennettProgram fan-boy Google Group, because I know he reads it. No one else is critical, but I must have touched a nerve by mentioning his "offer" to give up his program if people really wanted Stephanie more than him broadcast live...Here's his post (as "Radioboy"):
Quote:
What I said was, if you wanted to have Stephanie rather that me, write Sirius and maybe they would do it. Two people wrote. Management thought it was one of my better bits. Come on, they own my show, not Stephanie, what do you think they'd do? By the way, please don't quote me unless you quote me right. Finally I have nothing against Stephanie except that she is a Terresty!
I guess we need a few more letters to do the trick...Try Jeremy Coleman, who is the vice president of talk programming that Alex was referencing as "management." -- jcoleman@siriusradio.com

My letter to Mr. Coleman:

Quote:
Mr. Coleman,

I want you to know how disappointed I am with the recent changes in Sirius left. I have 3 Sirius radio subscriptions, one in each of my new Ford automobiles and one at home. Losing the last hour of the Ed Schultz program and all of the Stephanie Miller program is not acceptable in my opinion. I pay a premium price for premium programming and Schultz and Miller are two of the finest left wing talk shows in the country. I'm also a big fan of Lynn Samuels, Tom Hartman and Bill Press all very entertaining and informative shows. Alex Bennett is a jerk and a waffler but he is also a good radio host who makes his show entertaining if not informative or relevant. I have tried to listen to the new program "Make it Plain" several times but to be honest it should be renamed "Radio Chloroform", its just boring.

I used to listen to Sirius Left all day long at home but now I'm streaming our local Air America radio station on the internet. I'm ready to cancel the subscription for my Sirius radio at home immediately and I'm looking at alternate entertainment systems for my vehicles. Before I do that I would like to hear from you to see if you are going to listen to your customers. Please reconsider the changes you have made and bring back the Ed Schultz and Stephanie Miller shows in their entirety.
Lets see what he has to say......

You might enjoy Bennett's erudite comment on the controversy:
Quote:
Get the wax out of your ears you malcontent. Besides givena choice between Stephanie Miller and me, Sirius wouldn't have to take a second breath, it would be Steph taking the walk. What is your problem you pathetic looser?
In writing, he reveals his character as it truly is: smug, dismissive, and arrogantly stupid. The "silver lining" in all this may be the fact that Bennett has shown his true colors.

Malcontent? Pathetic Loser? = Paying Customer with legitimate concerns..........Alex is pathetic!

Those comments and his attitude in this whole situation reinforce the theory that this entire "make it plain" fiasco is at least partially Bennett's idea.

Oh Boy!

Three hours of Stephanie (who was at drive time and was perfect for it) reduced to 1 hour at a time I'm unlikely to be listening.

Not impressed.

Hey, it's a crack in the damn..I'll take it!

YES! We need to PRAISE THEM for this decision. The fourth hour (repeated first hour) of the new show was just a slap in the face to Stephanie and Big Eddy fans alike. At least having the first hour of momma makes me feel that they are listening to subscribers' complaints. Now if only they would do what I've seen others here post: Dump Alex and put on Steph's show live, keep the new guy but shift him to 6-9pm, and restore the third hour of Shultz!!! That would be a perfect compromise for everybody. The consensus seems to be that Alex is the weakest link in the chain and if Sirius wants diversity on their left station by playing a show targeted towards african americans, that's fine as long as they don't sacrifise Jiggles!!!

I mean Alex has trouble getting callers (other than his same close circle) so if the new guy is drawing in lots of new participation, this should be an EASY decision.

I hear that, but I think it's important to write kind letters to Sirius thanking them for moving in the RIGHT direction and then challenging them to take this further and make everybody happy by yanking Alex Bennet and replacing it with Stephy! Win-win for EVERYBODY :-D

The reason only two people wrote is because only four people listen to his show. LOL. Now that it's posted here, we can start making our voices heard. Thanks for the email link.

And he also reveals that he doesn't know how to spell "loser."

Amusing that he says that when she has a nationally syndicated show that pulls in probably ten to hundred times the listeners he does.
