Default Liberals, we're losing Sirius Left!

And if the trend continues I'm not renewing my subscription. I got this system for the liberal talk channel and am very disappointed since Sirius has been the only consistent source for Doug Stephan and Thom Hartman as I drive.

This is sad, we're losing Sirius Left to sports.

Be patient, it sounded like they have some plans to stop pre-empting the talk channels, but it may take a month or so. If you were listening to Thom's show today, he mentioned speaking with Sirius and they told him they might be adding more channels to support the sports.

Adding more channels? Let's hope that is using OTHER channels. Adding more channels most probably means degrading sound quality of the ones we have, unless this is some sort of sign the new codec is coming, and that the commensurate improvement in quality is going to be used at least in part to add more channels instead of to improve the sound quality of the ones we have.

Stay tuned.

Yes, I agree that adding more channels is not a very good solution because of this audio quality issue. I am just reporting on what I heard. My solution, as I have said many times is to interrupt non-live programming. What Thom said had been told to him was that Sirius was going to be "adding more bandwidth."

Yes. It is really irritating that Sirius is using the talk channels for sports. I still disagree with playing so many games -- pick a few and go with them. I believe there are many subscribers voicing complains about talk channels being pre-empted. I know I did.

The game scheduled for tonight on 145 is not running. It's pure Malloy.

Perhaps the brass actually cares.

The Sirius Left hosts are very enthused about Sirius and mention it all the time. They have a very loyal following and should be treated with some respect.

I'm not especially Liberal but I do think someone has to express some dissent on the media; can't let the Bush gang go totally unchallenged. They'll turn arrogant on us.

Its fun to flip between the left and right channel to hear the different takes. I have to say i like the right channel. The left channel dumps on the pres and iraq, the right channel was talking about our involvement in ww2 and how that turned out.

Has Sirius given a reason as to why they selected the Left and Right talk streams as a place to air sports? Could they have selected some of the other talk streams, Court TV for example? There has to be a solid reason for Sirius to select the streams that they have for live sports - I don't think they are in the business of ticking off their customers.

They were using Court TV last night for a game.

You must understand that the Sirius management are new to this multichannel subscription narrowcasting deal. They all come from the uptight world of corporate broadcasting.

They need help from us poor listeners from time to time.

I admit I listen to music (Vortex) as much as I listen to talk and don't want to hear music bandwidth narrowed. But the Left channel is such a dim light in a terrestrial field overpowered by the Conservative Media Monopoly. But I guess that doesn't enter into the equation. I constantly hear how Sirius Leftt is the ONLY liberal media in many major cities.

I hate that Sports are being broadcasted on Sirius Left/Right.. That's just not the best place for them at all... I'm sure something else could be done!

Maybe a solution would be for Sirius to do like Direc Tv does and make channels appear for sports only whenever there is a game on and then take those channels off as soon as the game ends. This way they can keep all talk channels talk and have the games also. This way everyone is happy. Those who want to hear there left/right wing talk can listen to that and those who want to hear there ball game can listen to there favorite team.

Rob, that sounds like a good solution, but I don't think they have the bandwidth left over to create some temporary streams so they have to preempt something.

I'm just grateful that we have Sirius Left!!!

I'm also grateful that people are subscribing to Sirius, even if it's just for the Sports.. The more subscriptions to Sirius, the better!!!

If Sirius suffered from a lack of subscriptions and had to go off the air, we'd lose Sirius Left... AND they are being fair about it too!! They aren't just pre-empting Sirius Left, but also Sirius Right (so it isn't a vast right-wing or "liberal media" ha! conspiracy)..

I especially enjoy listening to the Mike Malloy program because it sheds some sanity into an otherwise insane society.. It's kind of irritating that when I go to listen to his show, I hear a game.. but Sirius has to sell subscriptions somehow, I think to myself.. Then I wait a couple hours and hear a delayed rebroadcast of Mike Malloy or go to IE America.com to listen online while he's live..
