Default Warning! Not A Political Forum

Okay folks, some of you appear to bring politics into just about every thread you start conversing in. I am giving everyone a heads up this forum is NOT a political forum. We have the Political Asylum and I suggest you visit that forum to get your political fix and leave it out of the threads of this forum. We are getting more and more complaints from posters about this issue. We do not want to have to start reading each thread with a fine tooth comb and so I am asking that you all police yourself so that this doesn't become necessary.

To Join or Remove yourself from the members that can participate in the Political Asylum forum, go here. You can join or remove yourself from the Political Asylum group anytime.

Thanks...

For the newer members...if you can't see the political forum, click on 'Groups' at the top of the page...the Political Asylum is in the drop-down list of groups. You'll be able to see the section after you join that group.

Then how ... pray, tell ... does one make a legitimate public complaint about (for example) how inappropriate it is to foist Alan Colmes on a liberal channel (thereby cutting up and taking time from genuine progressive voices)? Under the putative guise of maintaining order, a right-leaning moderator might be tempted to send it off to the Asylum, where few will see it, no? Yet it is a very real issue that deserves attention.

By all means ... when political talk has nothing to do with SIRIUS's lineup or when it descends into gratuatous personal attacks -- take action. But summarily deeming anything that approaches "politics" is simply wrong-headed and excessive.

I agree wholeheartedly and I DO think that's what the mods are trying to say. I always post threads about programming on political streams here because they ARE part of "news, talk, entertainment & traffic". The problem is when people start arguing with each other about their political beliefs. There are some people who instead of making a relevant comment about a political channel thread they just go on and say something to the effect of "well who gives a dung, your politics suck anyway". Then the thread turns into political name calling instead of programming comments. And the mods then have to babysit the people acting childish.

Now, if anybody gets upset at the simple mention of a poltical channel on here I would have to say that's just being overtly sensitive and whiny.** It's part of Sirius programming for goodness sake. I would have posted your thread about Alan Colmes on Sirius Left on here as well. I already posted one myself a while back. (By the way, remember to post requests in the request section of the forum. Supposedly, some Sirius people look in that section.)

**I should also say that I think it sucks to hide the political section of the forum just cause people whine about it too. Just take a Midol and don't read the threads if you're that sensitive! But... it's not my forum so I don't make the rules.

Grace you are exactly right, that is the issue. If the talk about those channels stayed on topic this would not be an issue, but rarely do they stay on topic and they always seem to turn political. Am I and the other moderators going to freak over a single comment, hardly! But generally all it takes is a single comment and then another, then another and another... It just seems to snowball.

In regards to why the Political Forum is hidden. Because this is a forum about Sat Radio. There for a while the Political Forum was getting as many post as all other areas of the forum. Also, MOST do not come into this forum for politics. We did not want that to be the primary focus of this forum and it was clear many had joined mainly to particpate in the political forum. If I had my way personally, we wouldn't even have a political forum PERIOD! There are plenty of those around on the net, without us having one here, but that is my opinion. But since many of the talk channels are political in content, it was felt that folks needed some place to talk these issues out and so the Asylum stayed.

You're also right that while we value the opinons of the poster, the decision is one that was and will continue to be made by the owner/admins/moderators of this forum. If folks don't like those decision they have an option to not particpate on this forum. Getting to the political forum is easy enough and instructions seem pretty clear to me so I fall to see the big deal.

I will do so, and as one of the people guilty of making this forum a flame war for politics, I want to apologize to everyone for doing so. I'll put the arguments where they belong. Sorry.

So have the moderators quit enforcing this rule? Has anyone had a look at the Fox news threads lately? Helloooooo!!

No, it's not gone, just the access to the group hasn't been updated since our move. Look at the original post in this thread for updated access instructions.
