It really saddens me.

I bought Sirius, in large part, because of their talk radio line up. But over the last year the quality on both the left and right has degraded significantly. There were a number of hosts that had thoughtful commentary on either side. Of late we now have very few hosts that don't yell and degrade as a way of getting their points across. I have no problem with people strongly standing behind their beliefs, even when they are largely toeing the party line.

But lately it's turned into "Bush is an idiot puppet for...." "the left are anti-american..." "Bush isn't even smart enough to..."

I see similar things going on in politics in general from Rove making public the name of a CIA agent to discredit a democrat operative to the NY Times investigating the adoption records of a Supreme Court nominee.

It seems that there simply isn't enough decent content right now to support 2 streams of quality talk on either side.

I really wish they'd take 144 and make it "lifestyle" talk which is talk radio that is anything but politics and sports. Art Bell, Science, Cigar, Food anything but sports and politics! Then take Patriot and re-program it to be real flag wavers of both sides of the aisle. Heck, just take the bill of rights and find shows that revolve around each of them to start!

My local Sean Hannity affiliate plays his show delayed and I really like Live from 125 so ABC News and Talk is still on my radio a lot but I find myself listening to less and less talk radio otherwise. The good news is that I'm listening to a lot more BBC news now and I can't wait for BBC Radio1 to show up.

While the talk streams have been disintigrating before our very eyes the music streams continue to get better and better!

DT,

That's why they call it "Politics". I bet I won't be the first person to tell you that politics is business, and it's a dirty business. I'm like you, I was stoked at all the talk radio that was available when I started subscribing over 2 years ago. It was like a total feeding troft for the talk radio trolls. I still listen to Cam & Company, Tammi Bruce, and Mike Church, and I find that all 3 shows are unique in their own ways. But most of my fact-finding news comes from reading blogs. They're always the quickest source for anything newsworthy. I don't get a paper, I don't watch local or cable news; it just seems so antiquated now. But don't let it get you down, man. If you're smart enough to process abstract thought, you can weed thru the crap to find the gold.

It's not just political talk on Sirius, it's political talk radio in general that has gone this way.

I will agree with you to a point. I don't really enjoy Hannity, and Jerry Doyle just goes off the deep end. I have not listened to Tony Snow that much since he is on when Laura Ingraham is on.

I like Tammy Bruce, she is really giving Bush hell over the immigration problems. I enjoy Tammy and Laura but that is about it. I still catch AAR online to see what the other side is up to.

I listen to Cam too. Aside from sharing a name with my son, they talk about the second amendment which is near and dear to my heart. They also do so without resorting to name calling (usually). The "man in the street" interviews get old though. As for Tammy; she's a little too screachy for me. I tend to agree with the SBS general concensus regarding Mike.

The problem is that most people don't have time to search through tons of original source material. A news source's primary value is not in finding "the news." The primary value, today, is in editing the news and identifying that which is valuable to the reader/viewer/listener.

As mentioned many times before, would be nice if Sirius picked up more of the BBC's talk programming.

Have you tried PRI 108 ? Have found some really interesting talk shows on it - current affairs, To The Best of Our Knowledge, This American Life etc - found it to be a bit of a hidden gem.
