I had it on for about a half an hour earlier. They played about 5 songs in a row. Then it sounded like some sort of newscast so I had to change it. So I'm sure they play a decent amount of music.

Yeah though, I really can't imagine that they expect to have this as on of the most listened to streams. But what do I know? Maybe there are millions of Koreans running out to their local Brest Bry to get a brand new Browprunkt Seelius ladio.

Somehow I seriously doubt it, which is why I am baffled by this channel altogether. I'd like to know a month from now how many people are really listening to this channel.

I'll be the envy of the radio world!! [sarcasm_off]
I know. While we're at why don't we get a Japanese channel...a Muslim channel...a Portuguese channel...a Chinese channel...a Thai channel...an Italian channel...a French channel...

Oh hell, let's just dump all the English-speaking channels in favor of EVERY major language in the world. Yeah, and then let's CENSOR them for Corporate America, not that it'll matter because most of us don't know what the hell is being said in the first place. Oh, I forgot we then have to add a whole new crop of Z-grade celebrities and give them their own channels. Then, we double all the commercials on the new talk channels and just replay the same ones over and over.

That's sarcasm baby!!!!

Well. I've listened on and off all day and I did happen to hear some music I recognized... it sounded alot like the "Weather Channel" music. I also heard some Korean words I recognized at the same time, "Miami, New York, Atlantic City". Does anyone expect many new Korean subscribers from this? Aren't there more Chinese and Japanese people in this country than Koreans? I have to say (if you didn't know already) that I think this channel is a complete waste.

Now that everyone's enjoying Radio Korea, I can hardly wait for the next big channel release..... "Radio Static!!"
Then the one after that is "Radio Baby-Talk / Mumbling"

Default Census Facts

Let me insert some facts into this discussion. Here is some data from the 2000 Census.

Asian population in the U.S. is about 4.21% of the total population.

Here is the breakdown within that:
23.8% Chinese
18.3% Filipino
16.2% Asian Indian
10.9% Vietnamese
10.5% Korean
7.8% Japanese
1.8% Cambodian
1.7% Hmong
1.6% Laotian
1.5% Pakistani
1.1% Thai
4.7% Other Asian

So, there are more Koreans than Japanese in the US.

My take on the Radio Korea stream is that Sirius is attempting to serve a niche in the US that is underserved. Is there a single radio station in the US that is entirely in Korean? There are over 1.2 million Koreans in the US . Also, the demographics of this group are what Sirius is attempting to appeal to (There is a higher percentage of 20-40 year old Koreans than the general population, and they earn more a higher income than average). An all Mandarin/Cantonese channel obviously makes sense with the numbers. Does a Korean channel make more sense that Filipino or Asian Indian, I don't know.

Will I listen to this stream, no. But I also don't listen to the Spanish channels, R&B channels, Country channels, etc. That doesn't mean that they don't appeal to someone.

Also, this might be a way of giving the finger to Hyundai for choosing XM over them.
