A great decision. There's much better content to make room for.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson, host of The Word Network’s Rainbow Push with Jesse Jackson and executives from The Word Network met this week with Sirius Satellite Radio’s VP/Programming Jay Clark to hand-deliver more than 15,000 cards protesting Sirius decision to end Word Network broadcasts when the current contract expires on September 2.

The Word Network broadcasts African-American ministries, gospel music and religious family programming.

Lewis Gibbs, vice president of operations for The Word Network, asked, “If Sirius can make room for the values Howard Stern represents, we’d also like them to make room for the values we represent.”

I didn't even know this channel exsisted. I guess cause it's mixed up in the political talk channels. My grandmother would love this.

I wouldn't listen to Jesse Jackson if you paid me, so I can't imagine paying to hear him! IMHO

Agreed.

Goodbye "Word", don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.

I've never listened to a minute of it. But why ditch this and not one of the two Catholic channels?

The Word is the one whose contract is up at this particular time. And, if I'm not mistaken, EWTN effectively leases its two channels from Sirius. So those channels deliver revenue from EWTN, while simultaneously attracting subscribers to Sirius.

If I would have known it was affiliated with Jesse, I would have wanted it gone long ago! I lost all respect for him during the sudden findings of his illegitimate children that the Push coalition was paying support too.

Just another place to try "The Jesse Jackson Shakedown." F - him and F - The Word. It took a booty baby to make you lose respect for him? I guess calling New York City "Heimey Town" wasn't racist enough for most people. Jessie Jackson needs to open up the books of his "Coalition" and start showing us all where the money is coming from, and who really is his employer.

I've never listened to this channel, because it just didn't appeal to me spiritually, not like Christian music does. So this channel going bye bye won't hurt my feelings at all.

It probably has to do with bandwith room for Canada channels.

During the private meeting, Clark told Jackson and Gibbs that Sirius had also cancelled two other minority channels.
I wonder what they are? My guesses are either Heart and Soul or Slow Jamz, and Hispanic Talk.

To voice your support to The Word Network, contact your member of Congress by visiting http://www.congress.org/congressorg/...?command=local and tell them that wholesome, family programming is a necessity on satellite radio, or call Sirius' customer care center at 1-888-539-SIRIUS (7474).
If I was a Sirius CSR, every time I heard 'you should keep Word network', I would ask if they are a subscriber. If they say no, hang up.

Good for them. As long as Sirius is licensed on private spectrum, they could have 'Day to Day with the KKK' and the FCC can't touch them. I love the 'family-oriented' programming phrase as well. I count it, or its derivations 6 times in the PR.

Or "anti-family", in the case of my own, alternate situation. I actually did sample the programming on Word. Personally, I'm intolerant of the intolerant and I won't miss them.

Anyway, wasn't Word's carriage originally the result of pressure tactics?
