Default Now that NO 2nd Left-wing Talk Station is coming . . . .

According to this link http://getsiriusinfo.blogspot.com/20...sept-29th.html

Sirius is adding 2 "self-help" stations but NO 2nd left-wing political talk station to replace Air America. It is not apparent whether any line-up changes are occurring though, so all hope may not be lost.

So, I put a poll up to reflect possible feelings about why we may keep or terminate our subscriptions. I feel Sirius has a lot to offer, particularly w/world news (PRI, upcoming CBC news, BBC Worldnews, World news channel) and I can podcast my political talk since I'm not feeling most of the 143 hosts. But, what do you think?

What angers me is that they are not only not adding a second lib/prog talk stream AS THEY PROMISED, but they are also adding a Christian talk stream.

That will be three right/conservative streams vs. Sirius Left.

They're liars. It's that simple.

When I got Sirius, I only looked at the music channels... The only non musical channels I listen to are Cracked Up Comedy, Raw Dog Comedy and RadioClassics.

Personally I find the political channels (whether right or left) have just become too extreme.. Both sides seem to be about supporting a cause at any cost and lots of name calling..

They could get rid of ALL the policical talk and I wouldn't care.. But of course that's my personal preference.. I'm SURE others feel differently and I respect that

Default I believe they told a friend of mine that they would add

new progressive hosts on a new channel by Oct. 1.

So, that doesn't sound definitive.

We don't know that NO new liberal channel is coming, just not September 29th. I don't think they're liars as they never promissed a new channel, just new programming.

You can't assume that just because a stream is labeled "christian" that it is conservative.

I know a TON of jesuits who are anything but conservative (Bernie Ward for one) Not to mention Jesse Jackson. I also know a lot of conservatives who are agnostic or antheistic. I am a bit offended at your generalization.

Perhaps this is meant as a replacement for The Word.

Maybe I'm being optimistic like you SISO, but there will also be a shuffeling of channels on the 29th and we all know Radio Korea is moving. Who knows if they will leave taht channel blank for now while they work on programming. We will have to wait and see the new channel guide.

I can assume, since 99.9999% of Christian broadcasting is conservative.
.There are lots of liberal Christians - Sister Helen Prejean, Bill Moyers, Barry Lynne (who already produces his own radio show). However, the odds are overwhelming neither they, nor anybody with their political viewpoints, will be on the Christian station. And you can be offended at the generalization, but in October I (we) will be proven correct.

I assume they are still working within the same bandwidth, and three non-liberal talk stations are being added. Not much room for another station. Also, since they have known that AAR was going away for almost six months, I would think if they were really interested in liberal talk, they could pull together something by September.

You CAN assume anything you like.

My GUESS is that the christian talk stream will be apolitical.

At least it will be no more conservative than PRI and NPR streams are liberal. If you count those there are 4 liberal talk/entertainment streams. I don't count them but then I wouldn't count christian talk as conservative either.

Default Why would they keep additional liberal streams quiet?

It does NOT make sense

They had no problem announcing other streams before they came

I don't mean to be skeptical, but if they were planning on adding additional liberal/progressive talk, even if it was months down the road, it could only help them to indicate what their plans are

In my view, they messed up by not caring about the liberal/progressive audience

Wow, good for you but that has no relevance to this thread at all.

OK, reality check...

There are not that many Liberal Talk hosts out there. We know many are on AAR, and Sirius can't have them anymore. Others are exclusive to the big terrestrial companies (Clear Channel, Infinity, etc...) and are most likely stuck in those contracts.

I don't think a second Liberal/Progressive talk channel can be formed overnight. The loss of AAR was a blow to Sirius, no doubt. And to get a QUALITY second Left-Wing talk channel with more than one or two hosts will probably take more than a couple of months.

Sirius and XM both have only one Liberal Talk channel...and truth be told, given the current situation of progressive hosts, that may be all the market will support for now.

Someone made a list of potential liberal hosts, and it was quite extensive. Also, because many are on local stations or distribute their shows independantly, I doubt they have Howard Stern-like contracts. If Sirius only chose to run the full Thom Hartman and Stephanie Miller shows and added one independant liberal program (for instance, Barry Lynn's Culture Shocks), they would be very close to filling another progressive station. There are certainly more liberal talkers than fitness shows, yet Sirius was able to put together "Lime."
