We're tired of dealing with moralists. We're not going to fall for BS like "wouldn't it be reasonable to make this one tiny change" because we all know that it doesn't end with "one tiny change" -- it only BEGINS there.

Those people have blighted the public airwaves. We came here to ESCAPE those people. We've PAID MONEY to escape them. So excusez-nous if we're not particularly eager to indulge them.

The movie industry instituted the rating system in 1966 and 40 years later we still have the opportunity to rent any kind of material we wish. Are you suggesting that if Sirius implemented the same it will be different?

I'm against censorship as well and would do anything to help prevent that but in my opinion there should be something in place to help people that want to monitor what they or their kids are listening to. I personally don't like the idea of mandating certain programs to the night-time because I think that is a form of censorship...

Bill

Look ... we both know that if SIRIUS provided "Kiddie Receivers" that could only play specially encoded signals -- it would fail because NO ONE WOULD BUY IT. Moralists are all talk. Just as the people who demanded V-Chips the loudest never use it, or just as the anti-smoking Nazi never visit the bars where they demanded cigarettes be banned -- there is a large faction of the population who simply NEED to dictate the behavior of others. HL Menken called it "the haunting fear that someone, somewhere, might be happy."

People who press the "good of the children" hot-button virtually never have the "good of the children" in mind. They just exploit it to try to make censorship sound noble.

I don't think sirius2006 is looking to censor anything just give people an easy way to see what type of material is being broadcast. Would implementing a rating system be a bad idea? As a parent I would welcome this.

For some folks there is no tolerance of other people’s views or concerns, these narcissists only care about themselves. They see everything in the world is about them, done to them etc.

I agree, I think you can make your point without cursing someone out. I too do not want censorship. I don’t understand some people’s objection that Sirius simply marks the streams with Adult Language as XL, so that people are warned that this is coming. This would seem to be a good compromise, but tolerance is not some folk’s strong suit.

Isn't part of the purpose of Satellite radio that there is no FCC rules on what can be said, etc.? And why Stern is coming to Sirius?

Yes, Sirius can follow XM and put a XL after stations that use adult language, topics, etc. But then again, when we sign up with Sirius, isn't there something that we agree to in the possibility of harsh language and/or adult topics being broadcast?

Not to be rude, but if Sirius is too much, then don't have it around for the young ones to listen to, or lock out the stations on your receiver. Leave the AM/FM out and lock up the Sirius receiver.

I don't care, I don't listen to him. He was boring when he was the morning show host at Power 106 FM in Los Angeles. This was back in 1992.

If Sirius2006 doesn't like his cursing, She has the right to say so.

I never got to hear Jay on Power 106, but I love his current show. It's actually one of the few things left I can justify my subscription for now that Wax, Slow Jamz & Remix are gone.

I got out of the Marine Corps back in 1992, and I went to work for Oakley Sunglasses in Irvine, CA. I worked in the warehouse with a couple of guys that liked to listen to Howard Stern. Howard had just gotten to L.A. not too long before.

Anywho, I really don't know what's was going on, but Howard must have been live that day. It wasn't just a rebroadcast of his N.Y. show. He called up Jay's show on Power 106. Jay was going to have Vanessa Williams was going to be on his show. I don't know what Howard said to him, but it must have offended her, because she decided not to go on with Jay.

Jay got all pissed off after that. The guys I worked with changed the station over to Power 106 to hear Jay ranting at Howard.

You have the ability to be your own "rating system" if you have anything upstairs at all. Just lockout the channel if it offends you.

Thanks for your worthless opinion. Doesn't that mean that me or my kid has to hear the offensive word first?

I am completely in favor of some type of ratings system so parents can know what is coming.

First of all, your kid has probably heard the words already. And if they haven't, hearing it once won't make them melt into puddles or destroy their minds.

Just like parents know not to let their kids watch HBO or other cable channels without checking it out first, the same needs to be said for sat radio.
I know what channels are relatively safe and what channels are completely safe for my kids.

It is unfair for you to expect the world to censor itself for your kids. That is your job.

Where did anyone say that they wanted to Censor anything? A few of us are just asking Sirius to mark the channels where you might hear adult language. That is not censorship.

TX, the first part of my post stated that I was also in favor of a ratings system. I was merely pointing out that until that happens, parents have to be their own ratings systems.

the previous poster seems to be against that idea.

Not at all, it is my responsibility to keep an eye on what he's watching and listening to. All I'm suggesting is that it would be great for Sirius to put something in place to help with that. But you're absolutely correct that in the end it's my, and only my, responsibility. No arguement here.
