Big '80s is unlistenable. It's like mainstream FM radio circa 1987, which was not that great. First Wave is better, but '80s music is one area where XM is so much better (their decade station is much better, and Fred is the best music station on either service).

I agree that Fred is one of the premiere stations on either service, but I wish XM could complement Fred with a station like First Wave, so that the entire 80's new wave genre was covered. Or that Sirius would start a Fred-like station. XM's Lucy doesn't do it for me at all.

I actually think XM's 80s is almost unbearable, and prefer Big 80s on Sirius. I want my 80s to sound like radio from the 80s- it mixes alot of genres that made up that decades hits- I have both Sirius & XM- but where as the R&B category on XM is superior, the decades, especially 80s on Sirius get my vote.

I have both services too, and MUCH prefer Big 80's over 80's On 8. Big 80's really is an 80's Hits stream, while 80's On 8 digs too deep for my taste.

Also (and this comes from me being a radio junkie) I'm a big fan of Sirius using processing, and the audio chain on Big 80's is one of the best I've ever heard in any broadcast environment.

Like I said before, Sirius Big 80's blows XM 80's on 8 out_of_the_water!!

Sirius plays the hits I use to hear on the FM Dial back in the 80's and these are the songs I want to hear and Sirius plays them. XM mixed in the tipical "Side B Deep cuts" that I dont want to hear.

This was another reason why I dumped XM.

I actually think that Big 80s doesn't play enough genres. Prince, Madonna, Tina Turner, Bobby Brown - zzzzzzz. 80s on 8 reminds me of the alternative and college radio stations I listened to during the actual '80s, and Big 80s reminds me of the FM hits stations I avoided.

And the FM stations you avoided in the 80's, is the format I have found with the Big 80's.

Maybe the ipod is more of your genre.

Enjoy

Once again, personal tastes rule, and I hope that neither service moves towards the other (why have both then!).

The decades channels on each service are not the same, but both are pretty good. Sirius uses the big stuff that we know and remember, and XM rotates the Billboard 100 for the entire decade.

Billboard 100 changes weekly and there long since forgotten songs that actually made this chart. The more brief a song was on this chart and how low it charted, will determine it's 'obscurity' decades later.

Sirius will stick with the Top 20 (maybe 40?) of this chart so we know them best.

[quote="globalsaloon"]honestly im disappointed with the 80s channel. Seems they play the same songs from the same artists all day.

Huey Lewis, Heart of Rock n Roll

Madonna, Like a Virgin

Dexys Midnight Runners, Come on Eileen

MJ, Thriller

The Cars, these guys are on every hour!!

What about songs like:

Axl F from Beverly Hills Cop
Miami Vice Theme
Songs from Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Depeche Mode, U2 (anything else beside With or Without You), heck there are a ton of one hit wonders too. As well as maybe some MC Hammer, Vanilla Ice, etc. These artists made up the 80s.

I mean come on there are over 1000 songs with that 10 year period and this is all they play??? And i listen all day, station needs to get more diverse otherwise its no better than the Pop

You are so right, they play way too much:

John Mellancamp
Journey
Sting
Maddona
Huey Lewis

I even head madonna twice in 15 minutes last week....

Default 80's

The 80`s channel could be way better if they didn`t only play ROCK hits from the 80`s.
