Default Totally '70s -- The Jukebox from Hell

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know what the jukebox from hell segment is? I've heard it every night during JJ Walker's show and I was wondering if this was some sort of contest or just a simple promotion.

For those who haven't heard it, at night a promo comes on that says "Sirius 7 subscriber <login id> from <subscriber's town> steps up to the jukebox from hell to face the music." This is followed by a jukebox index number and a song.

I was just curious since I haven't heard JJ mention a winner or any other contest instructions. Thanks.

-Eric

The Jukebox from Hell was suppose to be Sirius way of expanding their playlist on the 70's to include songs that are rarely played. Sirius '70s has always been more rock or pop oriented and so that left a lot of music not being played.

I actually have grown to hate the Jukebox from hell because these DJ's really just degrade the songs so bad before playing them. I am like its not your job to slam the music before you play it. Just play it and keep your damn mouth shut if you don't like it.

I've heard it at different times of the day. I think it's just a little promo kinda spot, no contest or anything. They seem to pick music that is, well, kinda tacky, if music could be described like that. I don't think they're going for the best memorable songs of the decade, perhaps the worse memories?

It's been going on a long time, and is Sirius's way of introducing songs that they otherwise wouldn't choose to play on the channel. They commonly assign a Sirius Backstage member as the person requesting the song. It's kind of fun to hear your SBS name over the air

The only good one I've heard on JB was "music box dancer". Guess I'll have to listen more to the 70s channel. Didn't realize these were actually people's requests, some definitely have different music tastes from me then, not surprising.

They play some fantastic songs on the Jukebox from hell, my bone is that the DJ's generally slam the song because they may not like it. I think all this music should just be rolled into the playlist like XM does it. This is the '70s, not just some of the '70s channel. I don't like every song on any channel.

I've grown to like the JBFH spots. It adds some flavor to the channel, and frankly some of the songs are pretty bad. And admittadly some of them are not bad at all. I heard them play a JB song for me on Memorial day when I was in the middle of nowhere by myself on veterans memorial highway (hwy 95).

The song was "Having My Baby" by Paul Anka

Yesterday they played "Fernando" by ABBA on the Jukebox From Hell. I didn't really agree with that. I thought ABBA was supposed to be hip.

Thats why Totaly 70s should play whatever was a hit back in the 70s. What you think is a dopey song, I may love. What I love and enjoy, you may hate. You cant possibly have any channel covering an entire decade of the hits that made the charts appeal to everyone with every song. People need to rememeber that this is not your personal jukebox. Let other people enjoy songs that you cant stand. With JB from Hell, we get a mix of the quirky hits that may not have stood the test of time as well, but none the less they fun to hear, and still may be someones fav.

Any hits/pop station devoted to a decade should play all the hits of a decade, not just those the PD thinks are hip or the ones he/she likes. AZJoe is spot on.

I'm OK with Jukebox From Hell type of spots, as long as there is an overall respect for the music evident. It's funny how the songs that were thought to be atrocious in the day sometimes improve tremendously after 20-30 years when the nostaglia factor kicks in.

Bluer than Blue, Undercover Angel, Sad Eyes have all been JBFH songs. All good songs to me.
