Default Why does the Pulse suck so bad?

And why do we have to be subjegated to one of three Sara Maclachlan songs every 20 minutes (or so it seems)? Seriously, this is supposed to be a 90s/AC hits station and it can't do either right.

Although I do agree with you on the Sarah M songs, I find this station much easier to listen to rather than Hits1 where we hear a Mariah Carey song every 20 minutes (or so it seems!).........

I have found myself listening more and more and finding music I like on Pulse. When I first got Sirius, I would listen to a station for hours on end (usually new country 31), but I find myself switching back and forth between a few different stations as I have become restless with the playlists on those stations or do not feel like listening to a certain type of music at that time (i.e. Rap/hip-hop on Hits1 - Slow music on NC31 or some of the 90's music when it comes on Pulse).

I liked "the Pulse" much better when it was a normal Hot AC type format. Now that they've moved it more towards a 90's channel, I don't like it nearly as much. They need to create seperate 90s and Hot AC channels because "the Pulse" is too broad and trying to be everything to everyone. Personally, I preferred the old "pop alternative" sound of "the Pulse" over the 90s/Hot AC hybrid it is now.

When i first got Sirius i was hoping that the Pulse would play good stuff from the 90's. Instead they just play the crapiest music out of the 90's they can find.

The reason that the Pulse is "90s and now" is that they're basically the 90s decade channel; however, Sirius doesn't enforce strict chronological boundaries on the decades (eg Sirius Gold going up to about the British Invasion) and is willing to play music that fits better, stylistically, with the previous or subsequent decade on a stream.

With those constraints, as long as there's a number of 90s hitmakers who remain viable into the 00s, a 2000s specific stream would have way too small a playlist to survive, being pinched by the Pulse and by Hits 1.

As this decade winds down and the 90s artists fade away from the current scene (what's the list of artists that had top 100 hits in the 90s and in the past 3 years? Sheryl Crow and then...), the Pulse will evolve into more of a 90s hits stream and Hits 1 will play more back catalog from 2-5 years ago. Until, that is, a 21st Century stream comes along and makes the Pulse a decade stream like the others and returns Hits 1 to a pure-play contemporary hit station. I was somewhat surprised that this round of adds didn't do this, but I'm convinced that their next lineup change will do this (and probably move The Bridge into the Rock category to make room...).
In the dog days, people look to Sirius.

I think the pulse needs to open up its view of the 90s and play more bands. It seems like they just want to play more of the mellow songs from the 90s and barely any grunge or alternative music.

That's because The Pulse is really Sirius' HOT AC channel.

This is a link to an old post of what I would really like Sirius to do with The Pulse....

Here is the link

I really wish that sirius had an 90's music channel like XM does and I enjoy listening to that whenever I get the chance to do so.

2 sirius PNP units a Orbiter Reciver with Boombox & a XACT XTR1 unit with the Power Pod

Life without Sirus would Majorly suck

Default Pulse

I'm coming from xm and if there's one aspect I miss, it's having separate stations for the 90's and Hot/Modern AC. Now the Pulse has great variety because it's a 90's and now, while the Mix on XM seemed to get repetitive because they don't go into the 90's as much as the Pulse does. Maybe Sirius will separate them like they did back 2 or 3 years ago. They did use to be separate back then right?

XM has Sirius beat when it comes to Hot/AC hits. Sirius just had Hits 1 and Pulse. While XM has 20 on 20, Kiss, Mix, and 90's. I find Sirius hits1 to slot itself between XM's 20 on 20 and KISS. Sirius hits has a deeper playlist than 20 on 20 but not as deep as KISS. Sirius pulse is allot like XM Mix. Sirius really needs to add an all 90's channel a leave pulse as a 90's and today hot/AC.

they really need to quit playing so much Sheryl Crow. Shes good, but not every 15 minutes.

I agree that the Pulse prior to the 90's and Now format change in January 2004 was much better, but you have to consider that the Pulse is a valid radio format that is played on terrestrial radio stations in major markets around the nation. I can understand why Sirius has made the decision to stick with the consultant based format of the Pulse, but Sirius is not developing a format to sell advertising so that format still puzzles me.

Anytime Mariah Carey comes on, I change the station. There are some songs that I don't like listening to on Hits One. I'm not a fan of hip hop or soul or R&B that gets played there. I might find a song or two that I like, but The Pulse has more songs that I listen to than any other. Yes, there are some songs that are annoying, but that is going to be the case of any station that people listen to. You can't make everybody 100% happy. You just hope you make people the most happy you can make them on average.

I don't have much to say about Sirius Pop or the Pulse, but hey, Agatha! I didn't know you were over here!

(I know Cabinwood is around somewhere...)
